Mayo Clinic logoIt is important to most of us that we enjoy our work but difficult to know when you’re looking for a job whether we’ll be happier working for one employer versus another. A great way to know if an employer offers a great place to work is to ask the people who know the organizations best — their employees. For the past seven years, Glassdoor has awarded its Employees’ Choice Awards to honor the 50 best places to work.  For 2015, the 10th best place to work was the Mayo Clinic.

The headquarters of the Mayo Clinic is located in Rochester, Minnesota.  The clinic is a not-for-profit medical practice and medical research group and is known as the first and biggest integrated not-for-profit medical group practice in the world.  There are over 3,800 physicians and scientists, plus more than 50,000 allied health staff employed.  Treating challenging health cases is what Mayo Clinic specializes in using tertiary care.  Founded in 1889, the practice was named after Dr. William Worrall Mayo and transitioned into the Mayo Clinic under his sons.  The U.S. News and World Report ranked it number one on its list of “Best Hospitals” for 2014-2015 and has ranked it as a top hospital on the list for over 20 years.  In addition, Fortune magazine has featured it as part of America’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” at one time for eight consecutive years.

Why work at Mayo Clinic?  Here are some reasons.  The culture and people are about caring for people first; this workplace values teamwork, collegiality, professionalism, mutual respect, and a commitment to continual progress.  You can also advance your career from training and educational programs.  The Mayo Clinic will allow you to express yourself concerning its main focus, which is doing what’s best for the patients.  Another reason to work at the practice is that it promotes diversity, which offers a broader range of views and the desire to be more creative and innovative.
