Gemba Coach

Summary

Using the Transformation 2.0 tools and methodologies, the Gemba Coach is responsible for supporting ongoing Lean transformation by ensuring strategies are implemented and principles/practices are embedded into the daily processes.  Reporting to the Corporate Transformation Team Operations Lead, this position directs, supports and coaches the plant management teams. The Gemba Coach will be responsible for, in conjunction with SBU Transformation Managers, the process of setting the roadmap of operations and supply chain improvements for the plant through the VSA process as well as coordinating, enabling and (sometimes) executing the improvement plan.

Responsibilities

·     Provides focused daily management at the Worthington facilities to ensure the adoption and implementation of improvement ideas into the daily operations and culture, preventing regression back to prior methods and beliefs.

·     Work with Plant Transformation Manager and BU Transformation team to build and maintain an aggressive plant improvement plan through the VSA process

·     Teaches managers to “go to the gemba” and mentors them on how to conduct effective gemba walks with employees.  Teaches the effective use of production control boards and visuals.  Gives constructive feedback as managers learn new skills. 

·     Supports the management team in defining and using visual management.

·     Coaches the management team to ensure value streams achieve takt time.  Conducts root cause problem solving when takt time is not being met.

·     Serves as a valued mentor and coach for the plant leadership teams  Develops a relationship of trust, confidence, credibility, and commitment to the transformation process.

·     Coaches people leaders at various levels within the site on skills required to lead in a participative, team-oriented culture.  Models these interpersonal skills in meetings, gemba walks, and other interactions.

·     Perform periodic Transformation Assessments within launch facilities to monitor progress and develop improvement plans.

Desired Experience

·     5+ years of operations, supply chain, integrated planning, or plant engineering experience and/or 3+ years of experience as a lean practitioner

·     Strong communications and change management skills; must be able to quickly establish credibility and influence shop floor employees and managers

·     Ideal candidate would be currently within the WI family of businesses and familiar with current culture, trends and iniatives

·     Short and long term project management skills
