System Administrator

The System Administrator will be responsible for the maintenance, availability, performance and security of all enterprise systems, applications and databases.  The candidate will ensure all managed systems adhere to monitoring and management standards and that all services are without interruption.  Candidate will be action oriented, results driven with a focus on commitment to customer service and contribution to team initiatives.



  • Manage the day to day maintenance, documentation, troubleshooting, and monitoring of the national information systems
  • Perform the duties of Technical Support Coordinator, with responsibility for managing/coordinating support for internal and external clients
  • Responsible for the administration/guidance of the enterprise workstation, server (virtual, physical, cloud) and storage environments
  • Build, configure and support Windows servers in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems within the IT infrastructure.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the security, integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
  • Perform periodic performance and capacity planning reporting
  • Support the Development and Quality teams by building/refreshing systems when required or coaches developers when needed
  • Perform SQL database software installations, patching and system support
  • Ensure all systems are backed up, recoverable and meet availability SLAs
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
  • Support the Development and Quality teams by building/refreshing systems when required or coaching developers when needed
  • Perform additional ad-hoc tasks as required or contribute in technology and business projects across company
  • Maintain effective working relationships within team and among internal customers. Learns new areas quickly and takes ownership of issues/projects
  • Seek and participate in personal development opportunities above and beyond required training(s)
  • Contribute to IT projects and team initiatives


Required Technical Skills

  • System Administration
  • Office 365 (O365)
  • Strong background in MS Windows Server Management (2008, 2012, 2016)
  • VMware, Virtual Center and Supporting Infrastructure (ESX 5.5 – Current)
  • Active Directory
  • Basic Scripting Skills (Powershell, VBScript)
  • FTP, Telnet, SSH, Remote Desktop
  • Basic Window Security (Authentication, Folder and Share Level Security)
  • Web Administration
  • MS IIS, .Net (IIS Service Management, familiarity with URL Rewrites, ARR, Powershell)
  • Apache Tomcat (Tuning Parameters, Java, Hea Size, etc.)
  • Website Load Balancing (Internal and External DNS)
  • Website Security (Web Application Firewalls, DMZ)
  • SQL Database (Familiarity)
  • SQL System Management (Software Installations, Upgrades, Patching, Database Services)
  • Relational Database Connections (Ports, Listeners, ODBC, RFC Calls, Linked Servers and Linked Tables)
  • Other (Preferred) Technologies
  • Familiarity with SAP and Business Objects
  • Best in Class Monitoring and System Management and Backup Technologies
  • Familiarity with SDLC, Change Management and Job Scheduling Technologies
  • Familiarity with ITIL Service Management Principles


Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years as a System Administrator supporting 24x7 Production environments (at minimum) 
  • Strong knowledge of server and application management concepts 
  • Microsoft Systems Administration/System Engineer certification preferred
