Life Claims Examiner

This role will reviews, approves, and/or denies individual death and/or disability claim requests and cases while corresponding with internal and external parties to respond to inquiries, complaints, and denied claims.


Key Responsibilities:  

  • For new death claims; Reviews claim information for completeness and accuracy and verifies deceased is insured, evidence is valid, claim was submitted by proper beneficiary or payee, and verifies payout amount; obtains proper evidence of death or necessary information for incomplete death claims; while authorizing payments and completing claim briefs with necessary codes.
    • Pays claims via payment system; corresponds with third parties to respond to post-payment death claims inquiries and requests
    • Analyzes policy data and makes decisions on applicant waiver of premium cases and updates policy records.
  • For new disability claims; Reviews claim (medical statements and employment records, and verifies policy provisions) information for completeness and accuracy; obtains necessary information for incomplete claims via correspondence; and calculates amount of claim award, and approves appropriate claim payments that are within company guidelines and state statutes; authorizes disability payments.
  • Reviews continuing disability claims and determines if disability waiver should continue; responds to related customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Refers complex cases and cases to senior approvers.
  • Handles claim requests for death waivers.
  • Handles premium waiver claims and completes complex correspondence. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • High School diploma
  • 3+ yrs. relevant work in Life Insurance.



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ yrs. relevant work in Life Insurance.
  • Effective communication.
  • Results driven
  • Strong customer satisfaction and focus.
