The Manager, Cancer Program assists the Director Oncology Services in providing leadership for the cancer program supervising the clinical, operational and patient care delivery of assigned areas. Duties include management of human, fiscal and material resources and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and regulations. Adheres to the mission, values and philosophy of Presence Health.


Key responsibilities include the direct operational oversight of Radiation Oncology, Outpatient Oncology Clinic, and Cancer Registry. Leads the cancer committee, tumor boards, patient navigation, cancer survivorship and cancer program accreditation activities.




  1. Develops and sustains an environment that supports excellence in patient care through planning and implementation of care delivery and performance improvement programs that result in positive patient care outcomes.
  2. Exercises sound judgment when dealing with challenging and stressful situations.
  3. Establishes and implements goals, objectives and performance standards for departments reflective of strategic goals and objectives of the organization and Presence Health.
  4. Assumes leadership roles in interdisciplinary care planning and collaborative efforts focusing on individuals and population served.
  5. Promotes and practices in an environment that fosters two-way communication between those in leadership and those providing hands-on-care.
  6. Maintains accountability for daily staffing patterns and appropriate skill mix to support areas acuity.
  7. Monitors the budget evaluation for areas of responsibility in order to assure financial viability, smooth operations of assigned units and delivery of cost-effective quality patient care.  Manages human, fiscal and material resources with an ongoing awareness of health care policies as they affect clinical practice and patient care.
  8. Selects, develops and evaluates staff within the areas of responsibility in order to assure the achievement of organizational goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction.
  9. Exercises independent decision making authority using the principles of problem solving/critical thinking.
  10. Collaborates with the Director on problems related to clinical and business operations; recommends changes in policies to carry out objectives more effectively.
  11. Manages multiple cancer program areas including Radiation Oncology, Outpatient Oncology Clinics, ancillary/supportive oncology services, and Cancer Registry.

Education and/or Experience                                                              

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Radiation Therapy required. Graduate Degree in Nursing, Radiation Therapy, Business or Health Administration preferred.


Minimum two years management experience in Medical Oncology and/or Radiation Oncology services. Working knowledge of operational finances. Knowledge of hospital and specialty accreditation: ACS-CoC , and other regulatory agencies, safety, quality improvement and multidisciplinary project management; knowledge of Medical Oncology/ Radiation Oncology practice.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registered Professional Nurse licensed in the state of IL, OCN preferred, OR

Licensure and/or certification in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology; Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency/Illinois Division of Nuclear Safety (IEMA/IDNS) license in the appropriate modality
