Software QA Analyst

The University of Cincinnati’s information technology group ([email protected]) is seeking a new team member to join our Quality Assurance (QA) group.  The responsibilities of this group span multiple areas that are critical to producing stable, high quality applications and services.  As a new member within the QA team, you will serve an integral role in supporting an environment that adheres to federally mandated accessibility guidelines. You will work with a core team to audit and provide remediation recommendations for systems, sites and services.  The selected candidate will be an important factor in ensuring we provide services that decrease rework, provide high quality to our customers, and ensure university sponsored systems and services meet accessibility guidelines and the institution’s commitment to universal design. Successful candidates should have outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as this role requires working with a wide range of customers.

  • Integration Testing
  • Regression Testing
  • UAT (User- Acceptance Testing) Functional testing
  • Device testing
  • Browser testing
  • Usability
  • Customer Testing and Review Sessions
  • Troubleshooting and customer support


Job Responsibilities:

  • Test new systems and system modifications to ensure adherence with accessibility standards
  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability.
  • Document defects using a bug tracking system and report defects to responsible parties and project managers.
  • Identify, analyze, and document problems with program function, output, display, or content.
  • Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes.
  • Create or maintain repositories of known test defects.
  • Plan test schedules and strategies in accordance with project scope and delivery dates.
  • Participate in product design reviews, providing input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, and potential problems.
  • Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance and completeness.
  • Other duties as assigned


Necessary Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience conducting security reviews and vulnerability testing Knowledge and experiences conducting Accessibility and standards compliance reviews using modern tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of quality assurance testing and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to a range of professional assignments including those which are difficult and complex
  • Ability to independently analyze extensive data, identify discrepancies and inconsistencies and recommend a course of corrective action
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to design, write, test and document efficient testing solutions to meet customer needs
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team–oriented work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Written, phone, and in person customer service skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative and good judgment
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree -OR- Associate's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of experience within General Information Technology or a related field, -OR- four (4) years of related experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience within Information Technology and/or Quality Assurance and direct customer care.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as this role requires working with a wide range of customers.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using automated tools to conduct security reviews and remediation
  • Experience using automated tools to conduct WCAG 2.0 AA/accessibility reviews, scans and remediation using dynamic and static analysis tools.
