Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group (ESG)

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Reports To: Category Manager, NPD

Department: Supply Chain (SCM)



This position will be responsible for supporting the SCM- commodity management team in its sourcing activities. These activities will include managing the SCM-Engineering Change Order (ECO) process, publishing RFQs, quote analysis, generating POs, and reporting.  Knowledge of basic supply chain principles, MS-Office Suite, MRP systems and engineering blueprints required.



  1. Manage SCM-ECO process using engineering software and tracking progress of same:  Log ECR/ECO, prepare RFQ-pull prints, identify suppliers to quote, quote analysis; assign ECOs to other team members as required; communicate internally with different functional areas and externally with suppliers; prepare periodic progress reports and presentations.
  2. Support PPV and savings by submitting reports from the ESG Sourcing Group to ESG Finance.
  3. Support the Supplier Quality function by notifying them of PPAP sample availability, recording final results and releasing part in ECO system.
  4. Support negotiations with vendors regarding price quotes for new and special components by providing quote analyses and assistance to category/commodity management team.  Must be able to collect, organize and analyze data in a meaningful way to facilitate decision-making during the negotiation process.
  5. Support category manager with new product project launches, by ordering samples from prototype through Project Beta Build.
  6. During new product introduction communicate supplier requirements to planning group.. Audit/verify receiving records (price and quantity), analyzing and/or adjusting releases from new or existing purchase orders, working with sales and/or engineering to identify upcoming orders and subsequent component requirements, researching any invoicing discrepancies for component/raw material purchases, etc.
  7. Must become proficient with J. D. Edwards MRP software and be able to enter and maintain purchase orders and/or release/delivery information.
  8. Maintains a detailed understanding of logistical options and associated costs to assure that material flow from suppliers to customer’s results in a high quality delivered product with an optimal cost structure.  Will require make versus buy and total cost of ownership (TCO) assessment.
  9. Prepares and issues all necessary reports and/or correspondence. Must be proficient with advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Mail Merge, Pivot Tables, VLookup, etc.) and SharePoint.
  10. Support team members in their absence – warranty, supplier quality, and meeting participation
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.



  1. High School Diploma required. Working towards Vocational Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor's in Engineering, Math, Science, or IT systems preferred.
  2. One to two years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  3. Strong analytical and technical abilities are a plus.
  4. Strong leadership and control of work processes from beginning to end is necessary. The job demands fast, but carefully thought-out results.
  5. Must be able to handle multiple wide range tasks.
  6. Must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers as well as end-users of related products and services.
  7. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams as well as lead team projects.
  8. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects at once and to complete quality work in a timely manner.
  9. Skillful in communicating difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  10. Desire to develop strategic sourcing skills (negotiation, commodity indexing, contract management).
  11. Outstanding interpersonal and team-building skills.
  12. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  13. Ability to work with computer-based information and systems, including Microsoft Office applications.
  14. Must be able to maintain a high level of organization throughout all daily activities. To include, but not limited to, documentation of all verbal and written correspondence with others (internal and external), proper filing of such information, planning and scheduling of appointments and the coordination of such with others within the department and/or company, time management and the prioritization of tasks. Must document on the purchase order all details relative to supply of a given component to allow for tracking and/or follow-up by others in the event of absence of the employee.
  15. Attendance at work, including presence at work during regular working hours or other schedule as may be assigned by the department manager, is essential. Acceptance of overtime assignments may also be required in order to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  16. Must be courteous and professional to others (internal and external). Must maintain a “customer service” attitude toward plant, supervisory, and management personnel to insure that our ultimate customer receives the highest level of service. Must have the ability to interact with vendors, customers and others in a confident, professional manner.
  17. Travel for this position is between 10%-15%.



Education:  High School Diploma required. Vocational Certificate, Associate’s or Bachelor's in Engineering, Math, Science, or IT systems preferred.

Knowledge: Requires ability to understand general arithmetic; ability to write in an understandable manner; understand verbal or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions, lists and billing materials; use PC based applications, including JD Edwards and Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge normally acquired through high school or equivalent experience.

Mental: Requires normal attention with periods of high concentration intermittently to operate machinery approximately 50% of time.

Physical: Requires walking/standing approximately 70%, lifting up to 40 pounds approximately 15% of time; involves repetitive overhead work approximately 10% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 5% of time.

Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate all manufacturing equipment, meters, chains hoists, automatic drills and general hand tools and to record written information.

Audible Demands: Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to hear for safety purposes.

Visual: Requires the ability to visually observe essential functions for satisfactory job performance and safety; color and depth perception required.

Environmental: Involves exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
