Guberman Garson LLP, an independent law firm allied with Deloitte LLP in Canada, is seeking to fill the full-time, permanent position of Immigration Manager – US Programs based in our Toronto office.  We require an individual with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a high-volume, corporate immigration firm environment with expertise in US nonimmigrant and/or immigrant application types.  Proven experience with extensive client and employee contact and in working with US government agencies and attorneys. The Immigration Manager – US Programs will contribute to our expanding team through premier client services and quality oversight within a highly collaborative environment.


Duties and responsibilities for the position include the following:


Lead, participate in and monitor delivery of US corporate immigration programs;

Lead and/or participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of program initiatives and strategies aimed at ensuring US corporate immigration compliance, through the creation and maintenance of program management and process improvement tools to streamline high volume engagements;

Lead the completion of  monthly and quarterly reports to track the service delivery of large programs accounts;

Relate well with client group and effectively handle confidential data and tight timelines for deliverables;

Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization and as demonstrated in managing client expectations;

Drive continual momentum and ensure immigration programs are executed in accordance with client and internal SLAs;

Experience troubleshooting technology-related issues with the firm’s IT department, as well as external vendors;

Development of operational reports leveraging case-management technology and collaborative file sharing software;

Identify barriers to case resolution and endorse compliant practical solutions to align with client needs;

Manage and oversee direct reports workload distribution, including ability to manage teams remotely utilizing technology and reporting;

Provide training and coaching (formal and informal) to direct reports on an ongoing and needed basis;

Act as a subject matter expert resource to junior staff and provide guidance on US immigration requirements, processes and procedures;

Manage and oversee internal and external projects, as required;

Collaborate with leadership and broader mobility teams to drive process improvements, enhancements to the applicant experience, etc.;

External Posting Qualifications

Years of Experience:  Minimum of 5 years working in a high-volume corporate immigration environment.  Experience should include operating within a large, multi-site or multi-national organization.  Specific experience with US immigration, required.


Technical Skills:


Proficiency with MS Office and INSZoom (or similar immigration, case management software);

Subject matter expert for US nonimmigrant application types (L-1, H-1, TN, B, E-1/2, O-1, etc.) and/or US immigrant application types (PERM, I-140, EB-1C/2/3, AOS etc.)

Proficiency with data management, identifying key data indicators and creating report templates and advanced knowledge of MS Excel preferred.

Experience building relationships and partnering with key stakeholders at senior levels;

Strong verbal and written communication skills; executive presence;

Consultative approach towards clients;

Proven ability to excel in a high volume, fast-paced, complex environment;

Experience supervising and coordinating the work of staff;

Substantial experience developing and delivering training and coaching;

Highly self-motivated and able to drive results while working in a team environment;

Strong strategic-thinking skills with an ability to identify, recommend and collaborate with team members on process improvements and best practices;

Adept at navigating ambiguous situations; driving standardizations, while delicately balancing a need for exceptions based on unique circumstances;

Ability to work autonomously, with critical understanding of when to escalate matters for necessary leadership approval.
