Electrical Engineering Manager

Position Overview:

Manages a team of high caliber employees dedicated to working on projects for the Lighting division.  Oversees project lifecycles from ideation, implementation and ultimate finished product.  Keeps up to date with advances in technology and proposes new ideas and technologies for adaptation into Pelican’s existing products and new product lines.  Ensures Pelican’s products are innovative, competitive and best-in-class.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Manages all aspects of design and development of electrical projects and oversees the implementation of the technology into finished products to ensure that department goals and objectives are met.
  2. Oversees the design process from design concept through manufacture and develops, coordinates and maintains comprehensive project plans, work schedules and budgets.
  3. Monitors developments within related fields of technology to ensure that Pelican’s products are innovative and competitive.
  4. Selects and assigns projects to outside vendors and independent contractors as necessary.
  5. Assists with the creation of specification sheets, instructions and other product-related materials.
  6. Reviews and makes recommendations on policies and procedures to maximize departmental operating performance and manages fiscal responsibility for the Engineering department.
  7. Trains, oversees and coordinates the work of Engineering Staff to ensure that engineering designs are meeting product and quality specifications in addition to being detailed, accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  8. Conducts evaluations, recommends pay increases and participates in hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
  9. Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training, development, goal setting and performance management on a regular and timely basis.  
  10. Leads and influences teams in decision making, schedule adherence and scope management.
  11. Works with the Quality Assurance Department to process ECOs and CARs. 
  12. Resolves customer service questions and/or directs customer towards the correct source of information.
  13. Assists the Lighting NPD Directors with the hazardous location approval certification process for lighting products.
  14. Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
  15. Actively supports Pelican’s commitment to Quality and Safety, and all quality and safety objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  16. Performs additional duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Product Development.
  17. Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  18. Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS        

                                 

  1. B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, with 5+ years’ experience in a managerial capacity.
  2. Must have experience in analog electronic design
  3. Must have experience in designing high volume and high quality electronic products
  4. Must have excellent analytical and organizational skills, be detail-oriented and be able to work under minimum supervision.
  5. Must have excellent written, negotiation, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  6. Must be proficient with Word, Excel, MS Project and/or other appropriate software or project management tools.
  7. Must be able to demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
  8. Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  9. Experience in PCB and electronic design using Altium or similar software
  10. Experience in developing firmware using C or C++
  11. Working knowledge of hazardous location certification requirements strongly preferred (UL913, IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-11, EN 60079-0, EN 60079-11). 
  12. Must have the ability to design and develop products from concept through manufacture, analyze and resolve quality assurance issues in a timely manner, and work within ISO 9000 – 2000 guidelines.
  13. Must be able to travel as needed to meet with vendors to discuss technical issues.  Passport will be necessary as job may require some overseas travel. 
  14. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  15. Must have the ability to complete assignments within specified time frame
  16. Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  17. Must be flexible with work schedules and be available to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.

  • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
  • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.
