POSITION SUMMARY

This position is accountable to the Engineering Manager – Electrical Systems brands with responsibilities to design, validate and launch (primarily) software and firmware associated with TWG.  This position will operate under the general direction of more senior Software Engineering team members and contribute to the development and implementation of the strategy and realization of the operations and profit targets of TWG by performing the following duties personally as listed below. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (functions):             TWG expects all employees to work safely without injury maintaining the highest safety standards in compliance with Company safety policies.

1.       Write Firmware and Software code for TWG components and systems.

2.       The candidate will work within our engineering team to develop new product, taking it from concept through prototyping, debugging and release.

3.       Translates VOC/OEM information into actionable design objectives for TWG products.  Communicates with OEMs to insure clear understanding of customer requirements.

4.       Define system level software design proposals describing complete technical architectures and solutions.

5.       Work with Managers to complete creation of system specifications and development of work breakdown structures and timelines.    

6.       Work with hardware engineers to define microprocessor selection, relevant interfacing circuits and input/output communications at the module and systems level.

7.       Perform 100% validation testing of software design.  And together with Electrical Engineering, verify embedded firmware and higher level software functionality/compatibility with hardware design.

8.       Work together with Electrical Engineering in the execution of  test plans for proof of concept for new components and systems

9.       Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of software design issues

10.    Interface and coordinate with other departments including Mechanical Engineering, Production, Service, Quality, etc

11.    Identifies and recommends means to improve efficiency in software design methods, and results.

12.    Responsible for receiving input on machine functionality and validating TWG systems during on-site customer visits.

13.    Maintains accurate records during each phase of the project. Generate requirements and detailed technical specification documents. 

14.    Follows all departmental Operational procedures per ISO9001.

15.    Work with Managers and independently to generate and update Design and Development schedules to insure work is completed and released in a timely manner.

16.    Provides recommendations regarding approach for design, resource, and allocation of time.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS includes the following.  Other job qualifications within TWG may be required.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Previous professional use with Embedded Systems Programming using C and C++.
  2. Previous professional use with Intel, Motorola, or Microchip 8/16/32 -bit processors.
  3. Experience with design and specifications using CAN J1939 and CAN open.
  4. Experience with device driver design: USB, SPI, I²C, and UART etc.

5.       Experience with complete validation testing of software design and verification of embedded firmware and higher level software functionality/compatibility with hardware design.

  1. Previous professional use of an embedded Real Time Operating System (RTOS).
  2. Versed in Embedded Systems Programming Best Practices; e.g. program modularity, unit testing, etc.
  3. Experience in developing code in a structured and highly robust manner (CMMI best practices, ISO 15504/SPICE
  4. Experience determining requirements (analysis), functional requirements, and software architecture.
  5. Experience with board level analog and digital design; software and firmware development.
  6. Must be familiar with all phases of product development, including: requirements and documentation, architecture design and development, and implementation.
  7. Experience with multiple IDEs, for example Kyle, IAR, MCU Expresso or Eclipse.
  8. Experience with design and specification using RS485, RS232, J1939, MODBUS and CAN networks
  9. Some electrical engineering knowledge (i.e. schematic reading).
  10. Previous professional use of Electronics Lab equipment such as Oscilloscopes and Logic Analyzers.
  11. Experience with CodeSys development environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

  1. BS Engineering for Computer Science, Computer Engineering with emphasis in software firmware development
  2.  8+ Years’ Experience in Embedded Systems Programming using C/C++.

Preferred:

1.       Project Management experience, managing software projects.

2.       Familiarity with analytics, machine language, Artificial Intelligence, Programmable Logic Devices such as XILINX processors.

3.       Previous professional use of Version Control Systems such as Subversion or CVS.

4.       Previous professional use of Bug Tracking or Software Change-Management software.

5.       Skilled in the programming of Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET, in particular Visual Basic and Visual C#.

6.       Familiar with Windows Networking (skilled in file maintenance operations across directories, etc.)

7.       Previous professional use of OpenGL

8.       Professional experience with LMI is a plus.

9.       Professional experience with Linux.

10.    Working knowledge of cranes and / or boom truck dynamics preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing.  Must be able to move around obstructions such as boxes, chairs, desks, office equipment and other related items that may be on the floor, move around airports, in and out of airplanes or other approved means of transportation.  May require lifting up to 20 pounds with or without lifting aids and devices.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work in a climate controlled manufacturing office and shop environment as job duties require.  May be exposed to loud operating machinery and cold or hot temperatures.  Must be able to travel in cars, trains, airlines or other methods of transportation as required up to 10%.
