Job Description

This 14 month contract role offers coverage for an upcoming maternity/parental leave. This role acts as the implementation and execution partner to HR professionals and business leadership in delivering the overall vision at the regional level. This standalone role oversees the Canadian HR function and is responsible for all day-to-day functional areas and projects, including benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, employment law, retiree pension/benefits, and employee relations, as well as representing Canada on all HR matters locally, regionally and globally. A significant part of this role supports, implements, and executes all tactical aspects of administering the different DB and DC pension plans. This role will need to liaise with various departments and vendors such as legal, payroll, global talent acquisition, shared services, etc.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Main point of contact for Canadian employees (approximately 90 active employees) including the Brampton manufacturing facility and remote workers nationwide.
  • Standalone HR role responsible for providing guidance to one direct report (HR Administrator - contract).
  • Provides strategic value-added service to align the Canadian business on all HR matters.
  • Assists with government and legislative compliance for pension administration, including active, deferred and retiree groups falling under various companies Sealed Air Canada has owned (~600 members) as well as day-to-day operational items for these groups.
  • Understands and interprets benefits, pensions, and general policies and procedures.  Actively seeks out new ways to modify existing procedures to the benefit and support of global benefit and pension initiatives.
  • Responsible for Benefits and Pension Administration/enrolment and re-enrollment activities.
  • Sit-in member of the Pension Committee; attending quarterly meetings Downtown Toronto and ensuring actionables falling under the HR Manager role are met.
  • Responsible for employee relations/engagement initiatives, absence management, health and wellness, recruitment/onboarding, salary/compensation administration, employee programs, training initiatives
  • Oversees day to day administration activities performed through the outsourced service providers.
  • Takes a lead role in various pension and benefits initiatives such as annual audit and filings with Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), gathering and reviewing information, participating in meetings to ensure comprehensive understanding of processes, information required and timelines.
  • First point of contact for Willis Towers Watson (WTW) Pension Call Centre regarding inquiries/troubleshooting for pension related matters
  • Works with applicable internal and external user groups including HRIS and Payroll Shared Services, Manulife, Desjardins, ADP, etc. to implement new processes and resolve issues.
  • Assist with the timely transmission of vendor invoices
  • Coordinate HR-related training (i.e. pension education sessions, AODA, Bill 168)
  • Proactively keeping updated with changing legal requirements and associated actionables for compliance.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education/experience
  • CHRP/CHRL designation from the HRPA is preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive and related experience in HR including heavy pension administration, recruitment, performance management, policy development, compliance filing, etc. is required
  • Knowledge of relevant Canadian and multi-provincial legislation (Pension, Benefits, Human Rights, ESA, Bill 148, AODA)
  • Previous experience working in a Manufacturing facility is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of DB and DC pension plans and health and dental benefit plans is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface and influence all levels of the organization
  • Strong ability to work well independently and to troubleshoot with little to no guidance/resources
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to manage projects to completion
  • Experience in process improvement and change management
  • Demonstrated business acumen and attention to detail
  • Solid experience with Windows, MS Office (advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint), Google Applications, ADP (Payroll), Peoplesoft (HRIS), Success Factors (ATS) and other system administration
  • Ability to be flexible, multitask and change direction with little notice
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with emotional and/or confrontational circumstances and strong personalities
  • Bilingual in both English and French is an asset
  • Knowledge/experience with system feeds, changes and implantation is an asset
  • Travel is very infrequent, however, the ability to travel within Canada/USA is required (valid passport)
