Job Description:

This role is part of a strategic finance group, Enterprise Risk & Intelligence, which delivers analysis and insight on enterprise risk management techniques, enterprise value drivers and corporate financial strategy approaches. The group leverages three core competencies: quantitative (math, data science), capital markets and financial analysis skills. Projects will be approached as a team, with the Quantitative Finance Analyst expected to both complete independent analyses and engage collaboratively with the Quantitative Finance Managers. Using advanced modeling tools, the Quantitative Finance Analyst will provide objective and insightful analysis to Senior Management to inform their financial decision making processes. The individual must possess competency in the application of quantitative methods to solve complex business problems. Some of the most commonly used tools include stochastic modeling, regression analysis, linear programming, factor analysis and data mining. The candidate should have interest in applying these quantitative methods to advance Corning’s decision making capability within the Finance function.

Scope of Position:

The position of Quantitative Financial Analyst is a unique opportunity to be a part of Corning’s advanced analytic effort and to lead the adoption of analytic methods within the Finance function. The function is seeking to leverage mathematics, statistics, computer science and data science to complement traditional accounting and financial analysis. The ideal candidate for this position will have a quantitative background with interest and/or experience in finance and economics, and will be capable of applying quantitative techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulation, regression analysis, time-series modeling, to strategic financial problems.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Supports ERI Quantitative Analysis Manager to identify, assess and creatively solve strategic financial issues facing Corning
  • Performs business problem modeling and quantitative analytics support activities for group using established tools and practices, including stochastic modeling, regression analysis, time-series analysis and data mining
  • Compiles data and shares with colleagues on relevant and recent developments with analytical tools, best practices, and capital markets
  • Evaluates and recommends improvements to current models, metrics, and analytic processes to enhance operational efficiency
  • Helps define and document configuration requirements and data modeling requirements

    Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance)
  • Course work and/or interest in Finance and Economics
  • Course work and/or experience in mathematical modeling, computer programming

Required Experience:

  • Must possess a quantitative approach to analyzing data and solving problems
  • Must be inquisitive and open to challenging traditional processes and thinking
  • Able to present technical analysis to senior level stakeholders.
  • Ability to both work independently and as part of cross functional teams
  • Proficiency in one or more techniques such as time-series analysis or Monte Carlo simulation
  • Experience with or comfortable learning relevant programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, R) or software packages
  • Competence in data visualization is a plus.
