Overview:

 

To provide finance support to protect the business from financial risk arising from movements in the exchange rates associated with the buying and selling of products across around the world, and reporting the results to the business units.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for providing a single point of contact for the currency centre for all operational functions for the currency risk management system including system support, maintaining static data and responding to ad-hoc queries.
  • Responsible for reviewing and maintaining the security controls framework within the currency centre and ensuring appropriate segregation of duties for all system users.
  • To answer ad-hoc queries to enable full understanding at a unit level of currency results throughout the year. This involves explaining currency to associates across business units in a clear and understandable way.
  • To demonstrate leadership and provide a point of escalation for currency centre settlements and period close functions
  • To use insights derived from understanding of the currency risk management system to support the documentation and maintenance of the controls and governance framework supporting the currency entre operations
  • Provide technical system support to continuous improvement projects supporting the strategic vision of the currency centre.
  • Increase efficiency and control by using intuitive and automated models and databases where possible.
  • Regularly review and maintain standard operating procedures for all operational processes and retain these documents in a central portal for reference
  • To support other associates in the team, including providing holiday and sickness cover.

 

Context and Scope:

 

  • The currency centre is a global function that operates across all business units and segments within Mars Incorporated.  Its primary role is to protect the business from financial risk arising from movements in exchange rates associates with the buying and selling of products internationally.

 

  • The role ensures that the currency centre is using a best in class risk management system to drive efficiencies and add value to the global Mars business operations.

 

  • The currency accountant provides support to the global currency back office manager in the provision of results, responses to ad-hoc queries and an in depth knowledge of the practicalities of the complex systems.

 

  • Operating as a subject matter expert, you’ll be challenged to deliver exceptional advice, guidance and insight for an area of the business that can appear complex.

 

  • Communication and interpersonal skills are important, as the associate will be required to manage a network of both internal and external contacts as part of carrying out their core functional duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Key Skills Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Finance or similar

 

  • 3-5+ years’ prior experience in Treasury, Finance, or Commercial roles an advantage

 

  • Demonstrated ability to understand computer databases and systems is essential, Experience working in currency risk management systems such as FIS Quantum an advantage

 

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is essential – experience of pivot tables and macros an advantage.

 

  • The job holder will require excellent analytical skills with sound financial understanding, strong attention to detail, a questioning approach to challenge outputs and good communication skills to explain complex concepts in a simple way.
