Description:



Payload Engineering requires a COMSEC engineer with technical expertise in COMSEC design. The selected candidate will be an integral participant in COMSEC trades, subsystem design, performance analysis and hardware/software development and certification. Key areas of focus include COMSEC implementation trades, performance predictions and/or evaluations, system impact evaluations, security planning and certification. Candidate should be experienced in in these areas. The candidate should also be knowledgeable in space system development with a particular focus in COMSEC insertion and implementation.

The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished at the request of the customer:

- Support the customer in the oversight of the design, integration, test and certification of COMSEC subsystems
- Provide expert advice and coordination concerning COMSEC equipment for satellite and ground interaction

- Assess feasibility of new digital insertions and digital functionality enhancements
- Review and coordinate on changes to specifications, lCDs and system level requirements documentation pertaining to the functionality and accommodation of COMSEC hardware onto the satellite bus
- Review COMSEC specifications for accuracy and ensure documentation is complete and accurate
- Review drawings, documents and procedures for COMSEC design, manufacturing, integration, security, program planning and execution: provide comments to the contractor and/or government
- Track development issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates to the customer
- Develop COMSEC models for performance evaluations and predictions as required
- Attend ground and payload level design reviews and program management reviews to assess COMSEC design maturity, requirements compliance and to provide informed technical recommendations to the USG
- ldentífy and assess emerging risks; develop and evaluate proposed burn-down plans
- Review prime contractor readiness to proceed into COMSEC certification, manufacturing and test
- Provide expert advice/analysis on interface considerations for new COMSEC developments
- Coordinate with payload subsystem leads, branch chiefs and division chiefs both within S&L and outward to SE&I/AP and CCD in support of new payload and payload subsystem initiatives
- Provide support to launch and satellite on-orbit test as required by the customer
- Attend Payload Engineering branch meetings as appropriate at the request of the customer to coordinate support activities
- Provide technical evaluation of payload efforts in contractor Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)
- Attend contractor milestone reviews (e.g. PDR, CDR, pre- test, pre-ship and other meetings) to provide technically based recommendations regarding satisfaction of COMSEC related review entrance and exit criteria
- Provide support to factory integration and test activities as required
- Develop productive relationships with prime contractor counterparts, functional counterparts, and other subject matter experts
- Advise and mentor USG Payload and CCD subsystem personnel regarding COMSEC subsystem design elements
- Other duties as specified by the customer

Qualifications:

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
