We are currently looking to recruit a Health, safety and environment specialist (m/f) for our depot in Derby.


As a Health, safety and environment specialist you will have to drive improvement in practices and behaviours in a manufacturing environment. Our site in Derby is under constant scrutiny, both internally and externally, and therefore has a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, as well as delivering non-legal initiatives to promote a preventive culture. You will have to manage a demanding work pace with conflicting priorities while having an ability to take a strategic approach to identifying and developing initiatives to support the site preventive culture programs.


• Responsibility for ensuring that the Derby site fulfils all relevant health, safety and environmental statutory duties, thereby contributing to accident prevention and reduction, as well as supporting programmes to improve environmental performance and thereby reducing exposure to prosecution/fines. This includes:

• Have a thorough understanding of environmental legislation and standards to facilitate support for the site senior environmental specialist with various environmental statutory duties, including:

• Responsibility for non-legal health, safety and environmental issues, including:

- checking compliance with health and safety requirements through the use of Key Performance Indicators / internal audits;

- investigating all accidents, incidents, and near-misses using advanced root cause analysis; identifying, designing and deploying initiatives as part of the site preventive culture programme;

- creating and delivering effective, high-quality health, safety and environment training packages; delivering the site HSE induction;

- designing and deploying health, safety and environment initiatives to continually improve health, safety and environmental performance (e.g. behavioural safety culture), including regular communication with all levels of the organisation;

- providing expert advice, coaching and support to all areas of the business, including advice on equipment, processes and practices.


• An in-depth technical knowledge of a varied range of health, safety and environmental issues.

• Minimum of NEBOSH certificate, supported by comprehensive experience in similar health and safety role and from a manufacturing industry background;

• The ability to apply critical judgement and to use own initiative and create workable solutions tailored to the business;

• The ability to self-manage with minimum supervision;

• Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral, in order to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation; planning skills;

• Computer literate (Word, Excel, Sharepoint, use of Access);

• Flexibility to manage priorities according to daily challenges;

• Self-motivation, with a passion for health, safety and environment and a will to win;

• Team player with a passion for the role;
