We are currently seeking a Weather Modeling and Data Scientist to join our scientific weather modeling, research and development (R&D) team within the Agricultural Solutions (AP) business. The position is located near State College, PA.

Formula for Success: You Will……

The Weather Modeling and Data Scientist is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and supporting the implementation of short and long-term weather forecasting models. They continuously evaluate the performance of both internal and external weather models to meet end consumer needs. They also provide ad-hoc analytical services to BASF sales teams and agronomists to evaluate application conditions and product performance that are influenced by weather.
- The Weather Modeling and Data Scientist serves as an expert on the use of weather data and models in agricultural applications.
- As an Agricultural Meteorologist, you will be responsible for setting up and leading analytic studies and/or the development of weather-based agronomic models from planning to execution.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) related to Atmospheric Science, Agriculture, Math, Statistics, or other related advanced technical degree.
- 5+ years of experience evaluating and developing weather data and models
- 5+ years of experience utilizing weather based models to support decision making
- Expert understanding of theoretical and practical meteorology
- Knowledge of Numerical Weather Prediction Models, including Meso scale models
- Knowledge of statistical analysis of data and gridded atmospheric data sets
- Knowledge of at least one programing language appropriate to the needs of the weather department, e.g., C, C++, Python, Fortran, R, Peril, or BASH
- Knowledge of R, SAS, or MATLAB for statistical analysis
- In-depth understanding of geospatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies
- Experience with Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Networks
