DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Handle all aspects of the firms litigation electronic docketing system and docketing management, including reviewing, posting, and maintaining docket and calendar entries for all litigation matters and saving and organizing in the Firms document management system.
- Process and personally handle the filing of certain pleadings and other papers in state and federal courts, arbitrations, and administrative agencies, including electronic and hard copy filings, service on counsel, and delivery of courtesy copies.
- Interface with clerk and other court staff.
- Assist with pleading, discovery, and trial preparation projects.
- Provide filing and docketing backup when Manager is not available.
- Other duties as assigned by Filing and Docketing Manager and Litigation Paralegals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, with some post-secondary education, including a degree, preferred.
- Education, training, or experience as an administrative assistant, legal secretary, docket clerk, project assistant, or paralegal preferred.
- At least 1-2 years experience in an office setting and/or litigation experience in a law firm are pluses.
- Experience with and understanding of federal, state, arbitration, and administrative electronic filing systems are a plus.
- Ability to read and write using proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
- Ability to maintain records in a highly organized and efficient manner.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- Work requires a high level of attention to detail with the ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with and to follow instructions from a diverse group of court/tribunal personnel, attorneys and staff in person, by e-mail, and telephone and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
- Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends are required.
- Predictable, regular, and punctual attendance (whether in office and/or remote).
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of IManage (or similar document management system), PACER, PACERPro, and JuraLaw (or similar docketing program) is a plus.
- Ability to manage time to handle both time-sensitive, immediate demands (such as filing and docketing tasks).
