Overview:

This position for use in Health Plans Departments only.

This position is responsible for the collection, compilation, and input of data; analyzing and summarizing data; the development and/or preparation of reports; validation of reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of data; and for presenting findings and/or recommendations to internal and external customers.

This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

Collects and organizes data that is entered into databases.

Ensures the accuracy of data, analyzes conflicting data, and verifies and collects missing information.

Utilizes computer programs and software to analyze data, determines trends and changes in data.

Works with end users to determine report criteria and build reports as requested.

Provides timely and accurate reports to management, internal/external customers as required.

Learn data sources, how data is obtained and stored, and how to appropriately use data from different information sources.

Handles special projects and creates special reports with assistance or guidance from more senior staff as needed.

May assist in development and/or presentation of recommendations for a course of action based on the analysis of data.

May assist in audits of data and processes.

May work with systems or other departments as needed to pull SQL reports

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.

Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including ability to present information to a variety of audiences with differing knowledge levels.

Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to independently determine the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, and format and report structure, with assistance as needed.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects,or reports, identify issues, obtain valid data, and create clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought, with assistance when needed.

Ability to work well alone or in a team setting.

Must be a self starter / self motivated.

Willingness to learn new programs, processes, and applicable analytic tools

Demonstrated knowledge of payers, payer systems, cost effective utilization management and care management programs

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalency.

One years of direct experience collecting, organizing, validating and analyzing data, and in the development and presentation of clear and concise reports.

Experience working with Microsoft Excel pivot tables, charts, and advanced formulas and/or Microsoft Access.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

Knowledge of SQL queries, preferably in Oracle/MS SQL or other mainstream database.

Experience in health care, particularly claims data, and working knowledge of the health care industry, such as CPT/HCPCS, DRG and revenue codes and basic medical terminology.

Microsoft Visual Basic/VBA program development.

Experience and knowledge with insurance plans, auditing, and or compliance in a managed care setting or equivalent experience.
