Are you the all-round software engineer that helps us unleash the potential of our unique hardware? VSPARTICLE is a nanotechnology start-up on a mission to change the world of material development. To make clean energy possible, new materials need to be developed. We create technologies to unlock and accelerate the discovery of novel materials with unique properties that can contribute to solve the world’s biggest challenges, including next generation sensors, batteries and fuel cells. We are a diverse group of around 25 people, working together to develop, sell and support our equipment from our office in the city centre of Delft. We are looking to expand our software engineering (SE) team with an all-round software engineer. This team works to unleash the potential of our unique state-of-the-art hardware, collaborating closely with our nanomaterial printer team and our application specialists. Your job with us Your focus will be on creating a wide range of software products as part of the SE Scrum team. You contribute unique skills and knowledge to the SE team, while having broad enough skills to collaborate on any topic where software plays a role. You will also represent the SE team in one or more projects where close collaboration with our hardware teams takes place, discussing solutions to encountered problems and providing insight into these projects for the SE Scrum team meetings. Your professional qualities You are organised and responsible enough to play a role in bringing more structure to the SE team, yet when needed flexible enough to help your colleagues in the lab. A broad background and interest in natural sciences is a plus, as you will be collaborating closely with colleagues working on these topics. Besides having a relevant education, you have significant experience working on software development in industry (1 to 5 years), or have contributed to software in your spare time (for example, open source projects). Ideally, you would have at least basic familiarity with several of the skills below, and would be comfortable enough in some to teach the rest of the SE team a thing or two: Python (all-round; from backend to data and visualisation) Software architecture (object-oriented programming, software design patterns) Testing (test automation and continuous integration via GitLab EE) Data engineering and data science (SQL, time-series databases) UI/UX (Bootstrap, user flow design) DevOps (CI/CD, Puppet, Docker) Agile/Scrum framework What do we offer R&D on topics that help solve the largest planetary challenges Developing with state-of-the-art and open source technology (e.g., the latest Python 3 version, asyncio, FastAPI, OpenFOAM, Grafana) Versatile software engineering projects (e.g., control/monitoring/lab automation application, custom embedded hardware firmware for our machines, data analysis for automated experiments) Flat organisational structure with a diverse and international group of colleagues Combination of working from home and working from our office in Delft (we aim to work one or two days per week from home, on a full-time basis) A full time position (40 hours per week), but 32 hours per week is possible as well Participation in employer pension scheme, 30 holiday days, social events, possibility to lease a bike and free company lunch Interested?
