General Summary: 

The Senior Category Strategy Lead is responsible for leading the best practices and strategic category management initiatives for Cookie and Cracker categories across all customers and channels. This position is the subject matter expert for category trends, shopper behavior, competitive activity, and key retailer strategy.  Responsibilities include working in partnership with Shopper Insights, Consumer Insights, Marketing, and Customer Strategy to develop category, shopper, and channel-specific insight stories and strategies to drive business growth. 

The Senior Category Strategy Lead is responsible for the effective communication of distribution priorities, assortment strategies, and shelving principles to support the Annual Operating Plan. This includes support for gold standard aisle flow and planogram recommendations. The Senior Category Strategy Lead is responsible for publishing materials with sufficient lead time to support opportunity identification, gain category leadership at strategic customers, and to drive key sales strategies forward through the field Category Management and customer account teams. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

The Senior Category Strategy Lead will interact regularly with Sales, Brand/ Shopper Marketing, Customer Strategy, and Shopper Insights to develop strategic recommendations based on data analysis and insights. This position is responsible for generating external-ready category, shopper and consumer insights-based selling materials. 

Aisle Flow and Planogram Recommendations: Product and Assortment prioritization based on category contribution and strategic brand initiatives to drive net space gains 

New item and Scale Event Sell in to drive Speed to Shelf: provide senior-level briefings on category trends, key research findings and guidance on potential strategies to activate insights. Responsible for developing effective business strategies for various channels of trade for sell in. 

Shelving Targets: Provides training and guidance to field-based category management teams to ensure quality of execution with customers. Develops communication strategy to implement key research insights into business plans at the customer level. Creates direction for joint business planning development and for the category management function based on insights. Supports field peers, as needed, in preparation for key meetings with priority customers. Engages with key customer to gain and share insights and category expertise. 

Category Strategies: Creating category education materials and category strategy recommendations based upon competitive dynamics, sales trends, quantified growth opportunities and shopper insights to guide the business to focus on focused business growth. 

Job Complexity: 

Works with many cross-functional groups or teams at the customer, customer team, and headquarter level (e.g., Sales teams, Marketing, Category Management, Shopper Insights) 

Understands the unique characteristics and challenges of various retail channels and retailers and their implications and opportunities for relevant categories 

Synthesizes multiple data sources to develop clear strategic initiatives and compelling selling stories 

Ensures continuous skill building within the function through the introduction of new tools and practices to attain and maintain thought leadership in category management 

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree Required 

Minimum 5 years CPG experience required; previous experience should include some or all of the following: 

Category Strategy 

Category Management 

Analytics and Reporting 

Customer Sales 

Shopper Insights 

IRI and/or ACNielsen syndicated data experience required 

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred: 

Space Management Software (JDA, Apollo, etc.) 

Communication 

Storytelling 

Analytics 

Process management 

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint 

Working Conditions: 

This position will be based at Camden headquarters 

Travel as needed (10-15%) to company meetings, company training and other regions as business needs demand. 

This role reports directly into the Senior Director, Category Strategy and Shopper Insights
