Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking dynamic and creative candidates to join our US West Team as a Civil or Environmental Engineer. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who will perform most of their tasks at the Midnight Mine located near Spokane, WA. The candidate will be responsible for carrying out civil engineering activities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for mining operations and facilities (i.e., tailings storage facilities, waste rock management structures, etc.) with a focus on mine and facility closure. Provide advice, analyses, designs, and plans; ensuring that the best data is utilized in all analyses. Provide core design skills; numerical modelling capability; monitoring and data analysis capability; and dam safety management and stewardship.

This position will require a passionate and organized individual who can interface and develop relationships with our mining clients; develop and lead teams; develop project scopes, budgets and schedules; develop and lead site investigations and characterization; develop detailed designs; execute and review calculations; and prepare expertly written reports. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations. An ideal candidate will have a broad range of experience in planning, design, and construction phase services.

Your Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Contribute to an innovative and collaborative work environment where creativity is valued and encouraged.

  • Lead technical teams, perform technical work, make technical presentations, plan technical portions of projects, develop technical portions of proposals, and provide technical review of work products.

  • Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management.

  • Mentor and train future leaders.

  • Responsible for carrying out civil/environmental engineering activities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for open pit mining operations with a focus on mine closure.

  • Provide technical advice, analyses, designs, and plans.

  • Follow safe work practices and adhering to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

  • Prepare technical memoranda and detailed reports pertaining to field investigations, design studies, and construction activities.

  • Develop, oversee, and review civil field and laboratory testing investigations; primarily focused on mining and mine-waste projects such as tailing storage facilities.

  • Lead projects and small teams of people to complete work in field and office environments on time and on budget and provide technical leadership and review.

  • Develop client relationships.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven experience in mining and/or environmental sectors.

  • Exceptional technical writing skills, organizational skills, technical leadership abilities, oral communication skills, and attention to detail.

  • Experience with mine management design or mine closure/reclamation designs.

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the office and in the field at remote sites.

  • Demonstrated successful experience to initiate and maintain relationships with local staff and key staff from other locations within Stantec, and with existing and prospective clients.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in client service management, including the ability to interface with clients and to build and maintain lasting, positive relationships.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team and project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.

  • Civil or Environmental Engineering degree

  • Previous consultative work experience in a construction, design, and mine reclamation environment

Education and Experience

  • 10 years of relevant experience in environmental remediation, dams, and/or mining.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with preference given to advanced degrees

  • Professional registration.

  • Valid driver’s license

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
