Salary: The starting salary range for this role is between $68,800.00 - $73,600 per annum. Candidate experience will be considered when determining starting salary.

Location: The home office is located at 1101 Nicholson Rd, Unit 5, Newmarket, Ontario however due to the nature of this role, candidates will be required to regularly work from our other sites throughout York Region and South Simcoe. These sites include Markham, Vaughan, Aurora and Alliston. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work from home an average of 1 day per week.
Job Profile:
The Health and Safety Coordinator provides direction in the ongoing development and maintenance of the organization’s health, safety and wellness programs. This role is responsible for coordinating Occupational Health and Safety systems within each site. Together with the Joint Health and Safety committee, this role is responsible for identifying hazards, assessing risks to Occupational Health and Safety, and ensuring appropriate safety controls are in place.
The Health and Safety Coordinator is accountable for safety training, accident prevention, inspections and audits, safety incident investigations and reporting. This role will collaborate with managers and employees, regarding various Health & Safety programs and will provide the necessary oversight to ensure program alignment and compliance with provincial legislation. They will also be required to work closely with managers, and individual employees to promote Occupational Health and Safety at all the sites, as well as develop safer, healthier and more efficient ways of working.
Duties:
Assist with developing, implementing and monitoring corporate safety policies, programs and procedures in compliance with organizational standards as well as provincial legislation
Assist with maintaining and updating the Health and Safety components of orientation and conduct orientation and training for all existing employees as well as all new hires and students.
Complete internal audits as required
Conduct safety talks, safety observations, physical demands analysis, Job hazard analysis and mentor employees on safety practices
Co-ordinate, and maintain emergency evacuation plan, including drills
Ensure that Health and Safety boards are kept up to date with required legislative information and JHSC minutes
Ensure that the JHSC inspection schedules are followed and that timely feedback is provided
Lead the identification, development and provision of appropriate health and safety-related information and awareness, instruction and training and coordinate safety training programs
Maintain and update the H&S intranet site
Maintain the Emergency Response Programs and provide training when necessary.
Manage safety incident investigations to determine root cause, and ensure corrective actions, where necessary, are implemented and followed up
Monitor and update safety goals and metircs and analyze the indicators to determine required improvements and changes
Partners with P&C Manager and Manager, Quality Improvement to support interpretation of health and safety themes arising from incident reports and helps develop practice strategies for a safe working environment
Prepare reports, maintain safety records and documentation and follow up with employees to ensure compliance.
Promote safety awareness through communication and specific training programs and facilitate health and safety training to employees.
Provide leadership and support to all employees for health, safety and programs as well as any legislation changes that may impact the organization.
Research occupational health and safety information on a regular basis and ensure that best practices are implemented to minimize the hazards in the workplace
Respond and triages the H&S email and ticketing system
Support manager in P&C with miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned.
Support the maintenance of H&S policies and procedures
Works with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and health service agencies to ensure compliance and best practices
Works with the HR Advisors to manage employees who are submitting information to WSIB and are on either STD and/or LTD
In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.

Requirements:
Education, Designations and Certifications
Three-year post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety (or a related field) is required
Safety designations such as CRSP or CHSC designation or demonstration that it is in progress is required
Prior Work Experience
A minimum of four years of experience in a Health and Safety role is required
Experience in a healthcare setting is an asset
Knowledge
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and Workers' Compensation legislation
Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
Knowledge and practice of project management fundamentals an asset
Strong Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees, managers and JHSC members
Ability to work independently and problem solve
Ability to work with confidential information
Attention to detail
Advanced level of skills working with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Additional requirements:
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Police Check)
Valid Driver’s license and regular access to a car
This position reports to Manager, People and Culture
Working Conditions:
May require frequent travel between all sites, throughout York Region and South Simcoe.
Sitting at a desk, and communication over the phone/via virtual meetings
Primarily 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required
