Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Provides Administrative Support to the Public and Professional Services Pathway, including resolving problems, researching issues to determine level of Dean's involvement, generating reports, entering and maintaining dates in the division's database files, creating and maintaining general filing, and preforming reception tasks.

Functional Responsibilities:

1. Ability to interact effectively from a customer-service perspective with faculty, staff, outside businesses, and a diverse student population.

2. Ability to use advanced features of current software (word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, e-mail, Internet, and electronic calendars) to set up and maintain files, manipulate data, produce reports and, communicate information to appropriate personnel, and keep the office on schedule.

3. Ability to manage and organize pathway projects in a fast-paced office, to prioritize without direction, and to meet deadlines under pressure.

4. Ability to compose, type, edit, and proofread with accuracy. Skill in office etiquette/procedures related to telephone calls, visitors, confidentiality, and general accounting.

5. Ability to apply policy and procedure regarding curricula, waivers and substitutions, and student and faculty forms.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Experience in an office setting in which individual assumed a wide variety of responsibilities to include heavy usage of computer applications and interaction with customers.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma required with business and/or secretarial training

AAS in Office Systems, Management, Administrative Assistant or equivalent

Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel
