Position Summary:

Post-Award Monitoring Research Administrator Position (This position will be hired as either a Research Administrator or Senior Research Administrator depending on the candidate's number of years of experience.) As a member of the School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Research Administration team, the selected candidate will report to the Director of Training & Compliance and will support a variety of post-award monitoring and compliance programs across SOM and School of Dentistry. The primary focus of this position is to support efficient and compliant financial management of sponsored research through development, maintenance and active management of post-award monitoring and compliance programs. The active sponsored research portfolios across Medicine and Dentistry include 750+ active projects and $180M+ in active awarded funding.

This position is eligible for remote work. Candidates living outside the Richmond metro region are encouraged to apply but may be required to come on-site on occasion (no more than twice annually) for in-service training and professional development activities.

Primary responsibilities for this position include supporting the Director for Training & Compliance in:

* Maintaining active and effective monitoring programs in key compliance areas such as:cost share, deficits, effort reporting, timely and complete reconciliation practices, timely close-outs, Veterans Affairs MOU process, etc.Assist in establishing routine monitoring practices for adherence to established school-level and SOMRA post-award SOPs, as well as university and federal policy.
* Serve as financial coordinator for SOM's Clinical Trial Collaborative partnership with VCUHS and various SOM units.Support unit level RAs in effective clinical trial financial management.Maintain financial management system for monitoring financial performance of studies in the Collaborative model, providing routine reporting to leadership.
* Serve as the primary school-level reviewer for Administrative Actions in RAMS-SPOT and fixed price closeouts.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

* Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of direct post award research administration experience; including working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and OMB Uniform Guidance for federal awards.
* Must be proficient in the following areas: analyze financial transactions for trends and variances; expense forecasting; creating reports and tracking tools; financial reconciliation.
* Must possess ability to interpret and apply complex government regulations and contractual terms.

Must have excellent customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, be pro-active in asking questions and seeking guidance when needed.
* Strong problem solving and time management skills are essential, including ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
* Must be precise, thorough, and reliable and perform daily activities with minimal supervision.
* Must be proficient in the use of computers with an ability to learn new systems and software applications with ease. Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe required.
* Ability to work as part of a dynamic team in a diverse environment required.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

* 5 or more years of direct post award research administration experience preferred.
* Master's degree strongly preferred.
* CRA certification or ability to pursue within first year preferred.
* Prior experience in academic finance, clinical trial finance, or program management preferred.
* Experience with Banner Finance, SAS reporting, or similar systems preferred.
