Arconic is currently in search for a Manager, Automotive Forming and Joining Technologies to join our Arconic Technology Center in New Kensington, PA.

This engineering position will play a key role in automotive product and technology development by providing technical leadership, identifying new and emerging technologies and conducting research having a major impact on our product development. The successful candidate will integrate the technical expertise of self and others to develop creative solutions addressing the needs of our OEMs. This person will also be responsible for technical and administrative supervision of personnel within the Forming and Joining Labs at Arconic Technology Center, ensuring all testing supports product development for automotive and commercial transportation vehicles and is consistent with customer, quality and EHS requirements.

Primary Responsibilities/Key Objectives

* Key contributor to the automotive product development and technical strategy by aligning the technical needs with forming & joining priorities
* Owns a portfolio of projects related to forming and joining technologies aligned to our automotive product development strategy
* Leads automotive and/or commercial transportation product development projects or portions of projects with OEM customers, in collaboration with application engineers and sales teams
* Initiates, defines and leads major high-impact research and development programs to facilitate increased use of aluminum in automotive and commercial transportation applications
* Leads, develops and motivates forming and joining team to provide innovative and timely R&D problem solving and knowledge capture, serving as a judge of the soundness of solutions
* Owns the quality system for the labs and supports internal and IATF audits, overseeing the efforts in documentation, training, calibration, preventative maintenance and key performance indicator (KPI) development/tracking
* Ensures overall efficiency of Forming Lab, including staffing and support needed to meet testing demands and timelines
* Establishes stretch goals for direct reports and ensures at least two persons are trained for each IATF critical test
* Builds strong communication and linkages between Forming/Joining area and product development engineers, application engineers and commercial organization
* Develops and maintains strong working relationships with OEM representatives, industry partners, and Arconic marketing and commercial teams
* Identifies emerging technology opportunities in product development and/or the forming and joining technology areas and integrates these opportunities into the technology portfolio
* Promotes timely, accurate and professional documentation and dissemination of technical progress
* Ensures the best technology resources both inside and outside Arconic are brought to bear on problems in a timely fashion
* Tracks competitor products and/or technologies, comparing performance to Arconic product performance and capabilities
* Creates and captures intellectual property
* Supports major customers- GM, Ford, Stellantis, Rivian, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Tesla, Lucid and others

Basic Qualifications

* Minimum education requirement- MS in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering
* Minimum experience requirement- 7 years
* U.S. Only This position may require access to export controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications

* Preferred education- PhD Degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering
* Extensive domain knowledge in at least one area of product development, forming or joining of aluminum products for automotive or commercial transportation
* Expertise in materials design, forming or joining aluminum products, especially for automotive applications
* Ability to design R&D experiments, analyze data and identify important variables and physically significant trends
* Ability to work collaboratively across a broad spectrum of internal and external customers and suppliers
* Demonstrated ability to lead others and to work effectively in a team environment
* Technical writing, communication and presentation skills
* Strong leadership skills including, self-starter, willingness to take accountability, motivational and leads with a "can-do" attitude
* Familiar with and understands automotive quality systems
