Job Description

Houseman assists housekeepers providing the material needed on the housekeeper carts, rooms, closets, storages and more so that housekeepers may have everything needed to complete their daily tasks. Houseman responsibilities include performing a combination of tasks which maintain the hotel premises in a clean and orderly manner, thereby contributing to a pleasant, positive experience.


The objective of the houseman is to assist the housekeeping department in daily housekeeping tasks and projects as directed by Executive Housekeeper.

Essential functions of the Houseman:

* Provides professional and courteous service at all times.

* Cleans and maintains all public areas, storage areas and administrative areas.

* Cleans rooms on request.

* Run supplies and service items to guestrooms as requested.

* Run supplies and service items to housekeepers as requested.

* Dusts, vacuums and overall maintains all public areas, hallways, bars, rest areas and other spaces assigned.

* Polishes metalwork and furniture.

* Collects soiled linens for laundering and received and stores linen supplies in appropriate locations.

* Vacuums floors.

* Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products to adhere to health standards.

Packaging used guestroom linen for delivery to laundry contractor.

* Receiving clean linen from laundry trucks.

* Coordinating linen delivery to Room Attendant areas on each guest floor.

* Cleaning and maintaining all public spaces within the hotel.

* Cleaning administrative offices, including sweeping and washing floors, vacuum carpet, wash walls, dust furniture and fixtures.

* Removing trash from work areas to the loading dock in the appropriate area, recycling wherever possible.

* Make up and deliver rollaway beds.

* Move furniture, supplies, and equipment.

* Check, organize and deliver guest dry-cleaning.

* Removes trash

* Office cleaning.

* Refurnishes areas with supplies as required.

* Removes and disposes of trash.

* Attends monthly department meetings.

* Completes projects as determined by executive housekeeper.

Preferred Education & Experience

* 1-2 years in houseman position preferred.

* Minimal Formal Education - High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Schedule will be based on rotating shifts. Weekends, nights and holidays are likely to be schedule for work. Houseman must be able to work schedule based on business demands, including but not limited to weekends, holidays, nights and so forth.

Physical demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.

Must be able to lift up to 90lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.

Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.

Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.

Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.


All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per the specific uniform program.
