The Big Picture:

Due to our ever increasing workload, Howden Australia is currently recruiting a Strategic Procurement Engineer – Hydrogen, Oil & Gas, to support our Procurement team.

The main purpose of this role is to procure all project related sub-contracted, manufactured and proprietary items within project budget, timeframes and to Howden’s quality standards for Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects within the nominated value stream.

You’ll also be responsible for execution of procurement activities for the Supply Team value stream by directly dealing with suppliers, placing orders, expediting orders with suppliers, negotiating with suppliers and receipting of documentation.

As part of the above process, you’ll also be responsible for identifying saving ideas through alternative sourcing or value engineering in Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects.

What needs to be done?

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Identification & delivery of strategic savings initiatives in Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects.
  • Positively participating & assisting applications in tender process with accurate costing to achieve sales & executed margin as per the annual operating plan (AOP).
  • Preparing and managing Request for Quotes Packages in order to find suitable suppliers that meet project budget, timeframe and Howden Quality Standards.
  • Analysis of all suppliers in order to select the most suitable suppliers who are able to deliver high quality products at competitive pricing.
  • Managing suppliers to meet objectives related to cost, delivery performance, schedule and quality.
  • Review and managing the supplier base to ensure consistency with the sourcing strategy.
  • Conducting regular performance reviews with suppliers to drive continuous improvements.
  • Ensuring commercial, legal and contractual compliances in all the procurement transactions.
  • Adopting appropriate supplier management methodologies and procurement strategies in purchasing to secure better prices
  • Ensuring all PO’s are issued and received in the HAU ERP system as per procedure.
  • Preparing purchase orders and monitoring the selected supplier to achieve project goals
  • Organising inspections as required for the purchase orders placed, and dealing with any non-conformances.
  • Being proactive & self-managing supplier expediting visits (where necessary) to achieve vendor on time delivery
  • Collecting Quality and Inspection Documentation for the purchase orders placed and forward to QA for compilation
  • Following all Howden Procedures and relevant standards including ISO9001, OCHSA18000 and ISO14000.
  • Managing transportation from supplier to end destination including packing lists and related documentation as per agreed HAU Shipping process.
  • What do you need to bring?

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years previous experience as a a strategic procurement engineer with demonstrated experience in Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing or category management
  • Previous experience in in delivering turnkey Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects in an international EPCM or OEM
  • Exposure to electrical procurement with in depth technical knowledge, performed FAT’s
  • Previous experience in delivering Hydrogen, Oil & Gas projects in Australia or globally.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and proven record in delivering procurement savings.
  • Proven self-time-management skills, and ability to prioritise works under competing priorities.
  • Ability to read P&ID’s & engineering drawings, and produce Procurement requisitions from the technical drawings/specifications.
  • Ability to analyse bills of material and drawing to understand key requirements
  • Computer literate (Word and Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement and contract procedures and systems
  • Knowledge and direct demonstrated experience in negotiating contracts and quotations with contract manufacturers and suppliers.
  • You’re a positive, results driven individual, with excellent verbal and written communication skills - you can confidently communicate with people at all levels of the business. This extends to your ability to engage and manage key stakeholder relationships.

    Your ability to act independently is important, whilst understanding the importance of being a team player.

    You demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, along with a good attention to both detail and accuracy.

    You display sound judgement in the decision making process and initiative in everything you do.

    The following would also be highly regarded:

  • CIPS diploma in supply chain
  • 5+ years previous experience as a Procurement engineer or Quality control engineer that involved a strategic procurement function.
  • This role involves some travel to visit suppliers, we estimate this accounts for 30% of your time.
