About the role

The Safety Audit Manager primary objective is to support the delivery of Internal Audit (IA) objectives, which are:

  • Reporting to the Senior Audit Manager - Store & Hotel Operations, you will support the delivery of IA objectives, which are providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve the organisation's operations. 
  • You will also bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and test the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes.
  • This is achieved predominantly through leading and conducting assurance engagements, supporting management in delivering the annual audit plan, and providing coaching to team members. 
  • You will be commercially minded and an experienced Safety Audit Manager on a permanent basis. 
  • The primary objective of this role is to develop, plan and manage the Safety, Health & Wellbeing Assurance Program and provide independent and objective assurance of compliance with processes and procedures, strategies, plans and objectives. 
  • This role will also ensure that safety, health and workers compensation self insurance licence requirements are met in line with Board and State licensing requirements, monitor and report compliance to Workers Compensation, Workplace Health and Safety Legislation.
  • The Safety Audit Manager will also provide advisory services and promote continuous improvement in safety performance and safety management systems within the Endeavour Group.
  • The above is achieved in this role predominantly through developing, maintaining and managing the delivery of the Safety Internal Audit Plan. 

    Key accountabilities:

  • Support the business maintain Safety, Health & Wellbeing and Injury Management Self Insurance Licence through completion of operational and National Audit Tool (NAT) system audits;
  • Implement and maintain the national safety audit assurance program across retail stores and hotels;
  • Lead the execution of high risk store / hotel safety audits identifying and assessing key risks in operational controls;
  • Develop an audit schedule using a risk based approach that factors in performance, risks, previous audit results and regulatory enforcement;
  • QA store / hotel safety audits ensuring a high quality and accurate deliverable; 
  • Present audit findings in both written and verbal format to clearly communicate to various levels of management including the Audit & Risk Committee;
  • Complete reviews which are factually accurate and risk based in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Coordinate, drive and deliver simultaneous reviews in a timely and efficient manner, without compromising quality of delivery;
  • Develop and present reporting packs that provide result summaries and insights into key areas of safety risk to stakeholders;
  • Plan, undertake and report testing on areas of key audit focus, to a high standard;
  • Evaluate governance, risk and control frameworks across the organisation;
  • Exercise good commercial acumen and ensure audit recommendations are balanced, sustainable and risk based;
  • Undertake timely follow up of issues due to ensure that they have been actioned by management, or reported to the Audit Committee;
  • Coach and support others to achieve a level of engagement with the business which promotes IA as a trusted advisor;
  • Identify, recommend and support operational improvement of IA’s own processes and tools;
  • Act as an ambassador for IA during assignments, whilst engaging with various levels of management to facilitate achievement of IA objectives; and
  • Develop and nurture talent to drive a high performing and achieving team.

  • Role requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the Safety, Health & Wellbeing Legislative and Self Insurance requirements;
  • Ability and experience in auditing systems and operational procedures that maintain compliance to legislative requirements while developing injury prevention outcomes;
  • Ability to grasp subject matter (legislation, guidelines, codes, business rules/standards/processes) and apply it to business activities;
  • Understanding of Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and Industry Practices;
  • Familiarity with the role of insurers, insurance intermediaries, WorkCover Authorities and other legislative bodies and a proven ability to gain their buy in and support;
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and curious nature;
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment and to deliver quality outcomes and meet deadlines;
  • Display strong business acumen and in depth knowledge of operational processes and their interrelation;
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking capabilities;
  • High standard written & verbal communication skills and the ability to engage and build relationships with key stakeholders;
  • S&H Technical skills – Legislation, Self Insurance and Systems Focus;
  • Strong understanding of AS4801 and related quality management systems;
  • Strong understanding of Safety, Health & Wellbeing Due Diligence requirements;
  • Decision making capability;
  • Risk Management Principles;
  • Understanding of Safety, Health & Wellbeing Management Systems; and
  • Safety, Health & Wellbeing Hazard Identification.
  • Professional skills

  • Tertiary qualified in Safety, Health & Wellbeing (Essential);
  • 5+ years experience in auditing Safety, Health & Wellbeing Management Systems (Essential); 
  • Safety Lead Auditors Certification (Desirable);
  • Previous operational experience in retail stores and or hotels (Desirable);
  • Ability to provide recommendations for integrating Safety, Health & Wellbeing management systems into business practices;
  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects on time;
  • Ability to work with teams of auditors and managers;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to both business and store and hotel operations as required;
  • Ability to build strong relationships with business stakeholders;
  • Results-oriented, show strong initiative, be customer-focused, recognise effort and contributions, affect change, and be team oriented;
  • Motivate and inspire - establish direction and develop vision;
  • Ability to run effective meetings and ensure that all parties reach consensus;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise these effectively; and
  • Strong problem solving aptitude, with an attention to detail.

  • The Endeavour Group is headquartered in Surry Hills Sydney, however the role could reside anywhere within Australia, preferably Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for ease of communication and travel. Flexible working arrangements, including remote working, are actively supported and encouraged.
