The Big Picture:

Howden Australia is looking for a driven and disciplined Graduate Engineer to support and assist the aftermarket sales team in developing technical and commercial proposals for fans and ventilation systems. 

They will work with the AFM Contracts Team on spares and retrofit projects, contributing to the business through the application of their engineering skills and knowledge

He role will also involve other technical departments within the business including; Project Management, Engineering and Service, dependent on project requirements.

There will be limited travel commitments in first 2 years of tenure (<20% of time)

What needs to be done?

  • Support the AFM Technical Support Engineer on day to day basis as requested
  • Ensure proposals are submitted by the agreed bid due date and submission of subsequent technical clarifications meets customer requirements by supporting AFM sales function.
  • Apply academic learning to the workplace environment.
  • Development of technical justification for proposed equipment including the offer of alternative proposals. Apply product to customers system and advise on improvements that are possible.
  • Specify and procure quotes for major, technically compliant, cost effective items via external sub-vendors to prepare comprehensive proposals and accurate cost estimates.
  • Maintain proposal documentation in line with company procedures and policy to ensure compliance with QA standards.
  • Liaise with Howden Product Business Units globally to ensure Howden offer is correct and technically compliant with customer requirements. 
  • Liaise with 3rd party vendors to ensure products offered meet required technical requirements. 
  • Liaise with customers, where required, to answer technical questions on Howden proposals and/or installed base.
  • Ensure Company policies, procedures and norms are followed for all proposals activities to ensure the highest level of quality.
  • Provide technical support for commissioning activities.

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in engineering related discipline (e.g. Mechanical, mining or aeronautical) within the last 12 months or expected to graduate from degree within the next 6 months
  • Proficiency with drafting and 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, Inventor or equivalent
  • Strong MS Excel and MS Word skills
  • Knowledge of rotating machinery applications would be advantageous
  • Well-developed analytical and research skills
  • Ability to think proactively and independently solve problems, think laterally and identify corrective actions responding to technical queries relating to the plant design across a broad range of engineering skills including process, electrical, instrument, acoustic, structural, insulation and control.
  • Well-developed communication skills written and oral
  • High level organisational skills with the ability to work autonomously in a team environment and manage pressure and meet timelines
