This position exists to provide direction, coordination and management of the activities of an adjudicative unit within the Disability and Determination Services (DDS) Unit consisting of Disability Examiner Specialists involved in the investigation and adjudication of disability claims filed under Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act. This position is responsible for the unit's proper handling of all claims filed and for representing the unit in contact with the Social Security Administration and its local offices, administrative and local office of Department of Employment and Economic Development and other interested individuals and agencies.

This position will exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered, and staff will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objective of the section. The incumbent will ensure that the adjudicative unit is staffed with qualified personnel, in sufficient numbers, so that work assignments can be carried out in a timely and accurate manner. The position will direct and coordinate the activities of the unit, interpret and communicate policies and procedures ensuring that agency objectives are understood and achieved. Will provide oversight and guidance to ensure timely and accurate claims adjudication in compliance with Social Security Administration (SSA) regulations and agency policy.

The incumbent will be responsible for communicating with, responding to and negotiating solutions with other SSA components and other agencies, members of U.S. Congress, and individuals.

This position will also develop and maintain a favorable working climate within the adjudicative unit and with the Social Security Field Offices so that the work product between the Field Offices and DDS is accurate and expeditious.

**Minimum Qualifications**

**To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.**

Two (2) years of experience as an advanced professional performing Social Security adjudication of claims. (similar to DEED positions Disability Specialist, Disability Program Specialist, Disability Hearings Officer, Disability Program Medical Relations Coordinator or equivalent experience) involving determining eligibility for Social Security disability insurance benefits.

Ability to coach and train to lead the work unit.

Human relations skills including ability to negotiate, collaborate, build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, customers, and stakeholders.

Knowledge of medical aspects, vocational considerations and federal laws governing Social Security disability determinations to solve situations.

Skill in organization to manage workload, competing priorities and still meet strict deadlines.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Experience as a trainer, lead worker, or mentor for Disability Determination Services.

Proficiency in Disability Case Processing Software (DCPS).
