Job Description

Liberty is looking for individuals with lived-experience of an intellectual or developmental disability - to share personal experiences, obstacles and successes of self-advocating!

We are now hiring for a part-time 'Peer Advocate' position - which will involve speaking with other people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities about their employment, rights, services planning, community inclusion, choice and health and safety.

In this job you will travel throughout the region and be responsible for:

* Meeting with other individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families
* Meeting with health and human service providers and championing person-centered principles
* Working with teams to help overcome challenges
* Supporting other individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities so they may advocate for themselves
* Working side by side with other Liberty Healthcare team members

In this part-time position you will work 20 hours weekly.

You should be willing to travel throughout Southern Indiana during daytime hours. You will be reimbursed for approved transportation expenses - including mileage reimbursement if you have your own vehicle, if a family member / friend provides transportation or if you utilize mobility services (ie. vocational rehabilitation).

Skills & Requirements

You are a good fit for this position if you have lived experience of an individual with developmental disabilities.

You should have experience advocating for yourself and other people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities - which could include participating in a self-advocacy group, being a part of a committee, sitting on the board of an organization, or similar activities.

This position requires good communication skills and the ability to form relationships with others.
