The Opportunity

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking an energetic, inspiring, and experienced educator to manage and lead a new school tours program.

As part of an exciting program of renewal in the Parliamentary Engagement Branch, the School Tours Manager position will play a leadership role in enhancing Parliament House’s status as an iconic building and location of national significance to ensure that the public can experience the heart of Australian democracy.
This role will assist in shaping the new school tours program and support the Guiding Team to ensure the school tours program is dynamic and relevant, keeping up to date with the national curriculum and Parliament. The School Tours Manager will oversee the Guiding Team to ensure there is consistency and continual improvement across the team.

Effective and respectful collaboration will be critical to the success of the position, as you will be working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver expert content both face-to-face and digitally as part of the new program.

As a member of the leadership team, you will engage and motivate staff to deliver high-quality, expert tour content. An in-depth knowledge of, or the ability to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the structure and operation of Parliament are essential to your success in this role. You will possess good communication skills, an understanding of the importance of positive stakeholder relationships, both within the team and across DPS and externally, and the ability to work strategically and deliver quality outcomes.

Job Specific Requirements :
The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain:

a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance
an ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration

Duty Statement

Classification: PSL 6
Branch: Parliamentary Engagement Branch
Section: Visitor Engagement
Immediate supervisor: Director, Visitor Engagement
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 6 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Contribute to high-quality content for school tour delivery by assisting with the development, research and writing of expert content and ensuring tours meet the national curriculum

2. Manage and supervise the Guiding Team in training and operational aspects for school tour delivery

3. Effectively develop and support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and manage these relationships to achieve the goals of Visitor Engagement

4. Undertaking specific administrative tasks, project work and other duties as required by upper management and the Assistant Secretary

5. Collaborate across the Department and external stakeholders to work on a Digital Schools App

6. Work with independence, subject to limited direction against established priorities, practices, and methodologies to deliver quality outcomes
