Summary of Position

The Workbased Learning Coordinator combines and coordinates the efforts of many individuals, assuring that work-based learning experiences effectively and efficiently help students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and work habits so they can move successfully into the world of work. Reporting to AP of school culture and climate, this individual is a part of the operational team responsible for the successful and efficient running of our school.

Essential Job Functions:

Classroom instruction

* Develop outcome-based, measurable student objectives in collaboration with the Academy Design Team
* Create and implement a weekly WBL Seminar curriculum (in alignment with research-based national WBL practices)
* WBL course goals and purposes to students
* NYS Employment Regulations
* State and federal OSHA regulations
* Resume Preparation
* Job orientation and interview techniques
* Administer career assessments
* Collect weekly timesheets from students and tally time spent at the worksite
* Collaborate with faculty to correlate classroom and on-the-job training (Including but not limited to: guest speakers, job shadowing, mentorships, service learning, career fairs, internships, resume writing workshops, etc.).
* Issue internship applications and packets to selected students for parental consent and ensure that all paperwork is returned and filed in WBL student files
* Distribute working papers applications and ensure that all necessary documents are signed and received
* Develop a variety of WBL experiences for prospective students (in collaboration with FSA and building stakeholders to develop and sustain relationships with strategic partners)
* Assist students in determining appropriate WBL placement based on their personal, academic and career goals

Work-Based Learning Activities

* Evaluate, select, and establish worksites appropriate for student skills and interests
* Inform worksite supervisors and parents of their roles and responsibilities
* Create, monitor, and adjust training plans in collaboration with the worksite supervisor and students
* Help worksite supervisors develop teaching techniques for working with students
* Monitor student progress through regular on-site visits and ongoing communication
* Advise potential program enrollees, working with school counselor(s), career field teachers, and SPED and VR teachers and staff
* Develop and coordinate work experiences that encourage nontraditional occupational opportunities
* Prepare, administer, and analyze student and employer follow-up surveys
* Prepare and analyze data at the end of each trimester (in alignment to graduation requirements and school goals)
* Contact and use stakeholders to publicize work-based learning student programs, events, projects, materials, proceedings of advisory council meetings, and related items
* Develop and maintain a community partnership documentation systems for ongoing relationship-building activities across internal and external communities, including opportunities to prompt work based learning

Secondary Job Functions:

* Support with school events, including fire drills, scanning, sports, events and emergencies
* Additional responsibilities as needed consistent with the general nature of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

* BA or BS
* At least 3 years experience working in an urban school setting, previous charter school experience a plus
* Previous CTE teaching experience a plus
* Previous experience working with ATS

Required Knowledge and Skills:

* Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding: Transition planning; Special Education; Career and Technical Education; Employment, child labor, and wage and hour requirements; Workplace accommodations; Vocational rehabilitation; and High School graduation requirements
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in a variety of environments (education, business and industry, parental communication)

*Pay Range*

$57,500 minimum to $77,500 maximum

While the majority of new hires’ starting salaries shall be expected to be placed in the first half of the range(s) to allow space to grow in the job, for those who already have significant relevant experience at that level of the job, placement at the higher end of the range(s) is possible.
