Reporting to the Head of Legal – Energy, this role will provide specialist legal and regulatory compliance advice on matters relating to energy wholesale, trading, generation, and portfolio development areas for EnergyAustralia. You will play a key role in reviewing and interpreting changes to new and existing rules applicable to our operations (predominantly wholesale), to determine compliance and operational impacts. You will also partner with internal stakeholders to develop and enhance preventative and detective controls to achieve compliant outcomes for our ever changing and complex regulatory environment.
Act as the legal and compliance representative for the pipeline of new rule changes applicable to our business, with a focus on wholesale regulation e.g., Retailer Reliability Obligations, Gas Transparency Measures.
Lead the single point of engagement with regulators and business stakeholders for the management of information requests and notices relating to energy wholesale, trading, generation and portfolio development compliance matters.
Provide expertise (particularly for complex scenarios) in the investigation and confirmation of potential non-compliances including, managing the engagement with regulators for reporting purposes.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have a Law degree and a current practicing certificate as well as relevant post-qualification legal experience with a reputable Australian law firm, large corporate or regulatory entity.
An understanding of Australian energy markets and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
Ability to lead a legal and compliance workstream to implement regulatory change in a project environment
Thrive in a constantly changing and complex industry and ability to work with ambiguity
In addition to your technical skills, you will be able to work independently and collaboratively, combine “big-picture” and strategic thinking with problem-solving. You will be able to build strong relationships and respectfully challenge the status quo to reach positive business outcomes.
