The Productivity Improvement Branch aims to help agencies deliver their grants programs more efficiently and effectively through policies and frameworks.
The branch is responsible for developing and implementing whole-of-government policy advice on the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs), and has policy oversight of the whole-of-government grants administration arrangements. The team provides timely and accurate assistance and advice to the Government, entities and other stakeholders.
The branch also reviews New Policy Proposals and Cabinet Submissions that relate to grants, and prepares advice for the Finance Minister to release program guidelines. There are also a number of reform projects that the team is involved in, such as the development of whole-of-government tools and guidance to assist entities with improving grants administration.
We are looking for team members who want to work in a dynamic area to achieve policy outcomes through engaging with entities across the Commonwealth .
As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for:
Maintaining and interpreting the Commonwealth grants policy framework, whole of government grants administration arrangements and resource management legislation to lead and develop policy analysis and review
Leading projects to support grants policy innovation and continuous improvement
Strategic stakeholder liaison, such as providing advice:
To external agencies on grants policy and administration matters, including in relation to the operation of the CGRGs and reviewing grant guidelines.
on New Policy Proposals and Cabinet Submissions that involve grants, and inform Finance’s agreement to risk ratings for grant opportunities prior to public release.
To GrantConnect administrators to support legislative and policy compliance in relation to grants reporting requirements.
Delivering policy briefings and documents for Ministers, Executives, stakeholder agencies and other governance bodies
Delivering stakeholder engagement activities
Supporting the Assistant Secretary and Director to manage team and branch priorities.

Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for an initial period of up to 18 months. Specified term vacancies may be offer for a maximum of 18 months initially, and be extended up to a maximum period of three years.
