Tamworth Regional Council is a large and vibrant regional Council with over 600 employees who service our community in a diverse range of areas including, but not limited to, planning and development, infrastructure and recreational services, cultural connectivity and visitor experiences, economic development and water and waste services. This is our strategic vision for growth as a region, as we plan for how the city and the region will sustainably accommodate a population of 100,000 people, focusing on liveability, community and required infrastructure, among other things. The Growth and Prosperity Directorate supports and builds on the sound economic base of the region by retaining and attracting new businesses, improving the skill level and liveability of its residents, reducing the cost of doing business and delivering investment opportunities. This role coordinates key proactive economic programs, projects, policies and activities that deliver quality of life outcomes.

Council’s Economic Development and Investment division is dedicated to delivering investment that drives purposeful growth. The division is active across numerous fields providing diversity in activities, a team spirit which allows autonomous flexibility.
The “Manager, Economic Development & Investment” role is responsible for:
Provide leadership in the achievement of Council’s economic development and visitor objectives aligned with Blueprint 100
Prepare and implement strategies to stimulate investment and jobs in Tamworth Regional Council Local Government Area
Create relationships and networks with Tamworth’s key industries and understand where Council can assist them to maintain operations and expand where possible
Establish an Economic Development Hub Group within council that is focused on sustainable investment attraction, creating linkages with other Directorates in council that influence or are factors in business decision making
Promote investment opportunities in Tamworth Regional Council Local Government Area that add to local economy
Co-ordinate grant and funding submissions that are aligned with economic development, tourism and increased community participation
Support the Director, Growth and Prosperity to leverage federal and state funds to support economic development outcomes the Local Government Area
OPPORTUNITIES EXIST FOR
This newly designed role will require you to draw on your key strengths in relationship management and business acumen while offering opportunities to grow your skills and knowledge of our region’s economy. You will be a pivotal member of the Growth and Prosperity team and will be given the opportunity to step into other senior directorate roles to support diversity and knowledge sharing.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
Tertiary qualifications in Economics or Business or significant relevant experience of 7 to 10 years in a role and environment similar to this position Understanding budget processes including preparation and management of budgets
Proven ability to negotiate outcomes with government, business and community
Significant exposure and understanding of economic and political influences likely to affect sustainable economic development outcomes
Proven record in investment engagement and activation
Knowledge of tourism development and activation including brand building
Demonstrable and highly developed advocacy and influencing skills
Economic modelling, project coordination and management
Experience in managing strategic projects including analysing and reporting on economic activities and elopement trends;
Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on Stakeholder management and engagement including a proven track record in developing industry and business community networks;
Well developed people management and leadership skills;
Current Class C driver’s licence
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated professional with a passion to achieve short- and long-term economic growth. You can demonstrate your ability to develop and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships, have highly developed organisational skills and lead a small but diverse team through a coaching approach.
