The job:

As Product Sales Specialist, you will be a key member of our Biosciences Division’s sales organization where you will position and sell a wide variety of molecular biology and sample preparation products to our life science customers – primarily university, pathology and reference labs.

You will work to promote the product features, benefits and applications, technically positioning Thermo Fisher Scientific’s solutions vs. competitor products, with the aim of achieving or exceeding your territory sales plan. You will also be recognized as a technical leader within the sales organization that drives strategic objectives and adoption of new products. You will also ensure tight alignment with the Business Unit and maintain close communication with the product teams focused on training needs, market feedback and product development input.

The Product Sales Specialist is a highly technical position that requires in-depth knowledge of Bioscience workflows (Molecular Biology and Sample Prep).

This is a field-based sales position with a territory covering South Africa, Southern Africa and Island Africa. Regular weekly travel within your territory will be required – on average 3 to 4 days per week, including overnight stays. When not travelling, you will be able to work from home. The successful candidate should live in South Africa, close to an international airport.

What will you do?
Effectively sell our Molecular Biology and Sample Preparation product portfolio to customers and distributor partners within your sales territory, preparing and implementing a Territory Sales Plan, and achieving profit goals
Proactively call on existing and potential new customers via field visits, email and phone
Work closely with Distribution Managers and Regional Partners to develop specific account growth strategy, account mapping and penetration
Maintain contact with customers to promote new products, assist in closing deals, and grow sales, as well as develop new prospects
Accurately manage the sales process including sales forecasting, pipeline management, and sales tracking
through the use of our CRM system and other designated IT tools
Train/enable/support commercial representatives within Thermo Fisher’s direct sales organization, as well as our Distribution Partners
Capture, process, and disseminate competitive intelligence and market feedback
Evaluate, attend and support local trade shows and conferences
Coordinate and conduct technical seminars related to the portfolio
Develop a working knowledge of funding, market dynamics & end-user needs
Who we are looking for:
A Degree (MSc/PhD preferred) in Molecular Biology or similar, with direct lab-based experience working with related instrumentation & products
Previous sales experience within the life science industry preferred, although not essential
The role could also suit a new Masters/PhD graduate looking to move into a sales career
Some knowledge of the key accounts within the territory would be a benefit, but not essential
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals
Confident responding to common enquiries or complaints from customers and able to trouble shoot technical problems
Strong communication and presentation skills
Result oriented attitude with high energy and initiative
Fluent in English; additional local languages an advantage
Valid driver’s licence
