Title:    Payroll Compliance Analyst

Reports to:    Director, HCM & Payroll

Location:    BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. Restaurant Support Center in Huntington Beach, CA

Status:       Full Time (Exempt)

 
This position will be responsible for preparing standard and ad-hoc internal payroll reports, reconciliation of payroll bank accounts, balancing and auditing of tax statements, preparing various government reports, calculation and entry of fringe benefits, research of and maintaining compliance with minimum wage and sick leave laws, and oversight of garnishment processing.  In addition, this position will assist with other projects as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Interface with internal and external individuals, departments, and agencies to answer questions, resolve issues, provide required reports, obtain and share information related to payroll or payroll procedures
  • Run and audit daily payroll personnel reports for transfers, retro pay processing, LOA, address corrections, cost allocations, and tax mappings
  • Provide research, reporting and analysis of payroll data as required
  • Key transactions related to our Manager in Training program and manage end to end payroll process for this group
  • Assist with payroll entry for new restaurant openings
  • Calculation and entry of fringe benefits including relocations and company vehicles
  • Update and maintain department forms, documents, and training materials
  • Review tax statements and liabilities and resolve any errors
  • Perform quarterly reconciliations of local taxes
  • Reconciliation of payroll disbursement accounts and monitor ADP activity
  • Reconcile funding accounts for pay card provider
  • Assist with the implementation of daily pay initiative company-wide
  • On-going research of minimum wage requirements and system updates related to increases
  • On-going research of sick and other leave requirements
  • Over-see garnishment processing, resolve any errors and maintain vendor relationship with 3rd party processor
  • Assist with the preparation of data as it pertains to the year-end payroll reporting duties
  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and reconciliations for payroll processes
  • Research and respond to various government agencies related to subpoenas and verification of employment requests
  • Preparation of monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics reports
  • Preparation of quarterly Multiple Worksite reports
  • Preparation of yearly Occupational Employment Statistical reports
  • Preparation of yearly Census data reports
  • Preparation of annual unclaimed property reports and due diligence notification requirements
  • Assist the Director and the Senior Manager of Payroll Services with other reports and projects as assigned
Key Qualifications:
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant payroll and accounting experience
  • Experience using Workday software is preferred
  • Experience with ADP Smart Compliance site
  • Knowledge of garnishment laws and requirements
  • Multi-unit & multi-state experience required; restaurant experience preferred
  • Excellent understanding of payroll regulations, processes, systems, and practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills, adhering to strict deadlines, in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and other report writing software
  • Proficient in computer usage and related software applications, specifically Microsoft Office
  • CPP Certification preferred

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience
