An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietetic support worker to join our supportive and friendly nutrition and dietetic team to join us for 28 hours a week for 12 months.
You will gain experience in working alongside the oncology dietitians and specialist nutrition nurses to provide high quality and patient centred care. You will be supported to contribute towards the provision of optimal nutrition and hydration to inpatients and outpatients referred to Nutrition and Dietetics.
Role includes helping the dietitians to encourage patients with their nutritional intake, assist the dietitian to ensure that the nutritional care plan is carried out effectively. Support the dietitians and nutrition nurses to facilitate discharges of patients' going home with a feeding tube, and to ensure a seamless transfer of care between acute and community settings.
You will carry out delegated clerical tasks and to ensure appropriate care, information and support is given to patients.

Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills are required for the role. Good IT skills alongside some administrative/Clerical experience.
To support the provision of optimal nutrition and hydration to inpatients and outpatients referred to Nutrition and Dietetics.
To be responsible for supporting the nutrition and dietetic department in the provision of high quality & comprehensive day-to-day patient care.
To carry out delegated clerical tasks and to ensure appropriate care, information and support is given to patients.
To work closely alongside the dietitians, specialist nutrition nurses, nursing and catering department.
We are a dynamic and supportive department of 16 dietitians and 3 nutrition specialist nurses who work closely together daily. The team works in line with the Core values and behaviours of the trust.
We provide a service to inpatients and outpatient areas and are involved in and support research and audit. We encourage professional development with professional update sessions and offer inhouse courses and training programmes on leadership, different disease groups and advanced communication skills with the support of the School of Oncology.

The department is involved in student training, education, and networking at a local and national level.
Responsibilities of patient care
1. Prioritise workload daily to ensure efficient use of time.
2. To assist with the nutrition & dietetic team to ensure protected mealtimes on the wards are adhered to.
3. To support the dietitian and nutrition nurse in setting up of a home enteral feed discharges to ensure it is safe and timely.
4. To contact community dietitians to set up the home feed discharge
5. To contact nutrition companies to register the patient and arrange pump training and ordering of equipment and ancillaries.
6. Contact GP practices by telephone and /or letter via EPRO to request nutritional supplement and/or enteral feed prescription and deal with general enquiries by GP practices where appropriate as instructed by the dietitian.
7. Provide administration support in discharging patients on home enteral feeds.
8. To order appropriate feed for TTOs as instructed by dietitian
9. To support the wards for completion of food charts and weighing of patients.
10. To monitor ward stock levels of giving sets and carry out the ordering process.
11. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation on the Careflow system and clinical web portal of individual patients in line with local and national standards and trust policy on confidentiality.
12. To support the dietitians in delivery of supplements for allocated inpatients and outpatients.
Information Resources and Organising Skills
1. To input patient related documentation using the clinical web portal.
2. To provide data quality assurance using Microsoft Word and Excel programmes
3. To collate data to complete monthly departmental statistical returns and Balance Score card
4. Uses knowledge of Integrated Clinical Information system for case note tracking
5. To participate in department projects or audits as required.
6. To comply with policies, procedures, and departmental protocols.
Communication and Relationships
1. To communicate effectively and appropriately in

3. Liaises with clerical teams in the Rehabilitation Unit.
4. Liaises with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that adequate information and support is available to patients.
5. To attend and take part in the nutrition link nurse group.
6. To contribute to the effectiveness of the service daily.
7. Maintain accurate up to date documentation in all records, electronic and paper.
8. Demonstrate a complete awareness of confidentiality.
1. To attend appropriate mandatory training courses
2. To maintain own personal development and practice.
3. To participate in relevant training and monthly staff meetings at The Christie as required.
4. Completes clinical competencies as required
5. Assist in the training and/or orientation of students, and new staff.
6. To assist the dietitians delivering the nutrition training days for HCA's and housekeepers.
7. To ensure own actions reduce risks to health and safety by contributing to safe working environment in the department and patient areas.
8. Demonstrate an awareness of own performance through reflection and evidence within personal development portfolio
9. Develops and maintains their own Portfolio, Performance Development
Responsibility for Financial and Physical resources
1. Assists in the general maintenance and housekeeping duties of the department.
2. To manage the stock levels, stock rotation and checks of the nutritional products for the dietetic supplement cupboard informing the dietitian of ordering required.
3. To order nutritional booklets from stores and nutritional supplements from pharmacy as required.
