The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is the Taxpayers' Watchdog. We watch over government spending to make sure state agencies manage citizen's tax dollars wisely, deliver services effectively, and report results accurately.

The Technology and Information Management Systems (TIMS) division at OSA is looking for a skilled technology professional to join us in our goal of supporting OSA's mission by providing a technology foundation that reliable, scalable, supportable, and provides the tools to keep our auditors auditing. TIMS provides the information technology environment and infrastructure to support critical administrative and audit functions through software and applications support, service desk, network support, and system and server administration. These systems include a myriad of delivery scenarios, including vendor and self-hosted applications and cloud-based solutions.

TIMS is looking for an analytical technologist to join our team that can work well in a team environment to plan updated solutions, develop and design those solutions, and support current ones. The successful Server Administrator is in this position will be responsible for highly technical and analytical work serving as an administrator for a wide range of IT Systems. The employee will be responsible for server creation, maintenance, testing, backup, and documentation of activities in the Windows PC OS, Windows Server, and SQL environments. The employee will also responsible for identifying, informing IT Team, and executing appropriate action on software vulnerabilities in all environments they have been assigned. This employee should be adept at troubleshooting issues, as they will have a foundational knowledge of all IT areas (security, identity and access management, network, server, applications, cloud technology, etc). The successful candidate will be the link between the technology and the business and should be able to communicate appropriately at all levels. The employee should have the ability to work collaboratively to document requirements, plan, design, and support enterprise projects with informed high-level knowledge across all IT areas.

Description of Work Breakdown:

25% - Systems Maintenance

* Understands the activities needed to proactively support and maintain the secure technology systems in place (Windows Server, Windows PC, SQL, M365, Nutanix, Active Directory).
* Pushes updates and patches.
* Identifies and reacts appropriately to system vulnerabilities.

25% - Solutions Development

* Able to apply foundational knowledge to design and plan new systems and solutions. Foundational areas being: Programming, Databases, Operating Systems, Networking, IT Security, Data Analytics, Solutions Development, Identity Management, Project Management, Documentation.
* Offers suggestions for solutions, projects and requests to help ensure that the intended results are timely and efficient.
* Provides multiple options and approaches (when applicable) including pros and cons of each option and suggested option and approach.

20% - Troubleshooting and Support

* Able to work with the IT team and leverage skills to solve problems and resolve them.
* Able to work with stakeholders at all levels to explain options and issues related to IT and work toward a mutually beneficial solution.

10% - Communication and Collaboration

* Ability to work with all levels and across divisions (Executive Team, Deputy, Director, Manager, Supervisor, and staff) on an on-going basis, to help develop and implement their plans, projects and requests.
* Able to translate business needs into IT Solutions.
* Able to explain Information Technology to non-IT staff in a non-threatening and respectful manner.

10% - Time Management

* Able to work independently to manage one's time and meet deliverables.
* Ability to plan and organize the day-to-day work
* Has the ability to adapt a day's workload to accommodate rush projects and assignments as necessary.

10% - Personal Development

* Continually works to keep informed with new technology in the field and how that applies to the systems within the organization.
* Through research and training brings knowledge to the IT team for consideration and possible inclusion in new solutions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

This is technical and administrative work with systems, software, or network of systems or software. Technical duties include troubleshooting to identify system difficulties, installation, upgrading, tailoring, maintenance, and tuning of the system's software including the operating system software, communications/network software, programming software, and associated utilities or layered products. Work involves the operational support of the hardware, monitoring the system to determine performance tuning and capacity requirements, installing and tailoring systems and communications software to match the performance and operating requirements of the environment. Duties include coordinating and testing the software changes from the upgrades to minimize the impact on the users' applications and time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities needed to be successful in this position:

* Working knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computers and related peripheral equipment and information technology.
* Basic knowledge of the various systems software and layered products and the specifics of the configuration within the user environment.
* Working knowledge of the applications and uses of the system to provide advice in applications development or to troubleshoot applications or networking problems to identify system software solutions.
* Basic knowledge of the principles and methods used in obtaining maximum utilization of computing equipment.
* Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Management Preferences:

TIMS is a small team, and as a result each individual has a broad range of experience. While not required, the skills below, if present, would be of a benefit to the team.

* Experience with the Microsoft Office 365 environment
* Experience with the Nutanix infrastructure
* Database Administration
* Networking
* Cyber Security

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in systems software programming; OR

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in systems software programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
