    The Payroll Project Specialist sits within the People & Culture team.     What you’ll be doing

    As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll be supporting the People & Culture team with the payroll transformation project, moving from outsourced to in house payroll. You’ll contribute your subject matter expertise and work with a wide a range of key stakeholders from the employees themselves, Finance & Risk partners as well as the People Services team and the broader People & Culture function.

  • Working closely with our implementation team, ensuring the set-up of our payroll systems and processes and running testing and monitoring to ensure correctness, eligibility, and timeliness of payments in terms of Awards, Employment Contracts, organisational policies, and other relevant legislation
  • Provide internal subject matter expertise on superannuation, redundancy calculations, payroll tax

  • Liaising with staff at all levels and answer queries in a clear and accurate manner

  • Providing professional and customer-oriented levels of service to employees

  • Reviewing and overseeing current payroll practices, determining what efficiencies can be made regarding current payroll processes and procedures and implement changes

  • Assisting with reporting where required

  • What we’re looking for

  • Proven background and working knowledge in Payroll and relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll system implementations, process improvement and creation of new processes

  • Payroll compliance knowledge, including sound employment tax and industrial relation knowledge

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

  • General problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively

  • Time management and prioritisation skills

  • The ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with Workday & Preceda is advantageous, but not essential

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the sensitivity to understand audience needs and adapt style accordingly

  • Proactive approach to both project management and influencing change

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of people management principles and practices

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with business and technical resources

  • Experience with Workday, Preceda and other major payroll system is preferred

  • Relevant qualification associated with employment taxes and payroll is desirable but not essential
