The Data & Analytics CoE is a diverse team of technology enthusiasts enabling our global business. Johnson Controls has embarked on a Data strategy that focuses on establishing strong technology CoE, enterprise data management & cloud-based business solutions.

As an IT Architect, Data Management Lead you will be an integral part of our Data Analytics team. This role will be based in the US, reporting to the Solution Principal Architect. You will be responsible for defining the data architecture for applications utilizing Snowflake, Azure, and related data tools. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data modelling, data security, metadata mgmt and implementation details and will successfully represent the technical team to senior leadership, customers, and partners. Your technical expertise and operational excellence will influence the team's decisions and drive secure and robust solutions. How you will do it

* Develop enterprise data management program that includes
* Data Access Security Management

* Data Solution Code Change Management

* Data Privacy Management

* Metadata Management

* Data Quality Management

* Data Lifecycle Management

* Architect the solution and framework

* Administer the program, including facilitating the data governance council meetings

* Facilitate data governance organization, tactical and operational stewards, and the data governance council involvement

* Develop and communicate required policies and standards

* Provide quality assurance - oversight, monitor, report results to governance council

* Establish, maintain, and periodically review and recommend changes to data governance policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures

* Assist in defining data quality metrics

* Support data quality issue analysis and remediation

* Conduct audits to ensure that policies, procedures, and metrics are in place for maintaining/improving the program

* Focus on consistent protection/classification of data-by-data classification (confidential, public, internal use, etc.).

* Technical handling of data to meet data classification requirements

* Involved/facilitator in cross business unit resolution of data definition, production, and usage issues

* Escalate well-documented issues to the strategic level with or without recommendation

* Work collaboratively with all levels of business stakeholders to architect analytical data models

* Demonstrate understanding of concepts, best practices and functions to implement a data models on RDBMS, big data and cloud data platforms. Prior experience modeling for big data, key-value, document and graph use cases is preferred

* Supervise and review the work done by SI partners. Act as the "gatekeeper" of our data assets and ensure that data management best practices are followed

* Identify gaps in reporting and data management capabilities and develop mitigation plans

* Direct a team of data asset owners to improve consistency, timeliness, quality, security, and delivery of data

* Direct and model the conceptual, logical, and physical framework and perform data modeling (dimensional, relational, star schemas, snowflake schema modeling with facts and dimensions) nuanced for big data platforms

* Understand modeling concepts for batch, streaming and lambda architectures

* Demonstrate thought leadership and interpersonal skills

* Passionate about leading, guiding, and mentoring others

* Collaborate with business partners to drive adoption and optimization of the analytics platform

* Define data architecture standards, policies and procedures for the organization and ensure that these standards are followed

* Manage the maintenance of data mapping and data lineage documents, business glossary and data catalog.

* Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend data management technologies to drive efficiency and improve data asset management capabilities

* Guide ETL and BI development teams to develop high efficiency data pipelines

What we look for

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent discipline

* 12 plus years of experience with database design, at least 5 years with Bigdata and Cloud technologies

* Minimum of 5 years with implementation and operational support of Snowflake platform or with its complementary technologies: Erwin, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure SQL Data Warehouse (SQLDW), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Blob Storage, SQL Database, Apache Spark, Azure Synapse Analytics

* Knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practice

* Foster a culture of technical discipline, quality, and innovation

* Hold accountability for team's commitments, and in cases of failure, communicate failure points, repercussions, and mitigating plans

* Able to effectively influence stakeholders, team members, and peers to design and deliver optimal solutions in line with the best interest and expectations of the business

* Strong leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills

* Strong written and verbal skills for communication of technical solutions to business teams

* Demonstrated experience leading and influencing individuals and teams without formal organizational control

* Understanding of trends, new concepts, industry standards and innovative technologies in Data and Analytics space

* Ability to work with global distributed teams

* Strong documentation and communication skills

* Ability to effectively function in a global cross-team environment

* Ability to proactively suggest new ways of approaching tasks to provide a better service to our customer base
