General Statement of Duties

The Forsyth County Department of Public Health is looking for a self-motivated and energetic supervisor foran open Public Health Educator II position. This individual mustlike working with families and community partners on strategies and interventions that promote healthy pregnancy and birth outcomes

The Public Health Educator II is responsible for supervising maternal and child health programs in the Preventive and Health Education Services Division. The employee will also work on initiatives to reduce infant mortality, coordinate parenting classes and provide technical assistance to the community pertaining to parenting issues.

Distinguishing Features

A well-qualified candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and public health education activities.

Considerable knowledge of community assessment, program planning and evaluation procedures.

General knowledge of journalistic principles and methods of preparing subject matter in the promotion of the public health activities.

Working knowledge of display techniques and skill in the arrangement of exhibits.

Ability to develop health education activities; to stimulate interest and cooperation among various groups in carrying out health education activities.

Ability to write and speak effectively.

Ability to work effectively with people on all educational levels and to maintain effective working relationships with local health departments, community agencies and the public.

Prefer a skill set in supervision and in grant writing.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education and two years experience in public health education or a related field.

Must have a valid N. C. driver's license.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

A four-year degree outside of the relevant academic field plus additional years of relevant experience may also be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited too:

Advises, assists and supervises other public health personnel in planning and carrying out the educational components of agency programs.

Prepares, selects, assembles, and distributes health educational and informational materials to local agencies, organizations, and other individuals and groups interested in health programs and problems.

Develops health education policies for the agency/department/community, determines priorities, and maintains and evaluates progress of programs.

Provides comprehensive interpretation of community assessment data and converts data into programmatic goals.

Plans, develops and submits budget requests for health education services and monitors budgetary activities.

Identifies and pursues resources from local community or by grant writing to supplement established programs.

Performs related work as required.
