Overview:

Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 13 years, is currently looking for an experienced and energetic Full Time Patient Care Coordinator for one of our physician offices. Dr. Dodwell is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in lower extremity reconstruction including treatment of limb length discrepancy, congenital and acquired deformities, and care of children with neuromuscular conditions. In this role you will provide comprehensive administrative support to Dr. Dodwell's practice as well as multiple pediatric surgical practices on the floor when the need arises. While working with day-to-day operations, you will contribute to an environment of clinical excellence.

In this role, you will provide support for the operations of this elite, high-volume medical office. This includes, but not limited to, answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, surgical booking; obtain authorizations/certifications for treatments and diagnostic procedures, patient check-in/out, including copay collection, scanning documents into the EMR and any additional tasks as assigned.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Provides reception assistance such as greeting patients, answers/screens call in a pleasant and professional manner.
* Takes detailed/accurate messages or directs call to appropriate person or area.
* Provide routine information to callers in a professional and efficient manner.
* Maintains patient schedule and remains familiar with MD schedule.
* Completes full patient registration by collecting patient demographic related data, medical history to verify condition patient is being evaluated for, verifies insurance eligibility, and coordinates necessary preauthorization.
* Check-out patients following appointment with physician.
* Collect and post patient payments.
* Obtain pre-certifications and appointments for patient testing (MRI, CT Scans, etc).
* Scan and file medical information into individual patient accounts in EMR/ Maintains up-to-date medical records in EMR.
* Settle credit card terminal at end of each patient appointment day.
* Schedule new patient and follow-up patient appointments.
* Provides assistance in day-to-day administration of office.
* Assists in scheduling surgeries and other ancillary tests as directed by physician or office manager
* Facilitate communication between physician and hospital departments, department management and patients
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To qualify you must have an Associate's Degree and at least two years of related MD office/healthcare experience. Familiarity with medical terminology, out of network insurance coverage and general office protocol required. The ability to type 45-60 words per minute and exceptional organizational strengths are required, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
