Description

The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations and requirements at the facility. Performsafety auditsand inspections to find potential hazards and take corrective actions where issues arise.Provide indirect peer leadership to conduct risk analysis, incident investigations, root cause analysis and implement Health and Safety processes and procedures. Investigates accidents and incidents to determine what caused them and take steps to prevent them in the future. Ensure incident reports and findings are accurate and entered in the EHSS Management system. May be responsible for reporting incidents to workers compensation employee or vendor. Delivertrainingto new and current employees on LOTOTO, hazardous material safety, and emergency response procedures; and any hazard that affects employee work.

Other duties, assignments and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of the Director of EHSS. These duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

Develop site specific polices/procedures from corporate policies and procedures, execute, manage, and/or continuously improve various health, safety, and safety (EHSS) programs such as lockout/tagout/tryout, contractor safety, safe work permits, powered industrial trucks, lifts/hoists, electrical safety, process safety management, emergency action plan, crisis management, and/or emergency response.
Advises and assists employees regarding health, safety, and security requirements.
Helps develop site safety policies and procedures and updates as required.
Ensures that safety awareness training programs are thorough and compliant, and training is completed. Ensures all Authorized training is conducted, and skills testing is completed.
Ensures that all incidents, i.e., injuries, near misses, first aids, e.g., are reported and accounted for timely in the EHSS Management System. Compiles and distributes summaries of incident reports and corrective actions.
Investigates health and safety concerns, e.g., hazardous conditions, employee injuries, and near misses, property damage, and other concerns, and advises Departments Leaders on corrective action.
Conducts training regarding accident investigation and root cause analysis for supervisors and safety committee members. Oversees completion of injury and incident reports.
Arranges and administers safety committee member training and serves as a resource for the committees.
Coordinates and manages the Company's EHSS Management system locally in accordance with established corporate, Federal, state, and local requirements.
Ensures powered Industrial truck operator training and certification is thorough and compliant and that operator certification files are maintained.
Conducts First Aid/CPR/AED and “Safety in Motion” ergonomic training and performs ergonomic assessments.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with specific safety training. College-level safety training preferred.
3-5+ years demonstrated on-the-job experience in Employee Health and Safety preferably in a manufacturing & warehouse environment.
Strong written, verbal, and problem-solving skills required.
Must be willing to work in a collaborative manner with other members of the Employee Health, Safety, and Safety team and employees throughout the organization, sharing information freely and contributing to team success; Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals while working in a low supervision environment.
CSP Certification preferred.
Knowledge and experience with Federal and local government health and safety regulations, including OSHA, NIOSH, and other regulatory regulations.
Experience using Microsoft Office products; demonstrated experience designing and using Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
A high level of energy and friendly approach to people strongly desired.
A demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize required.
