Guildford: £60,000
Hybrid Working - Up to 3 days a week working from home
Are you an experienced UX Designer either used to a Lead role or ready to become one?

You will join at the point of implementing a new brand as part of a new strategy and an exciting time in a highly professional, dedicated team of digital experts (Content Design, Developers, Digital Analyst and Product managers).

Researching user behaviour of different personas and designing customer journeys and user interfaces to ensure our website visitors can intuitively navigate their way through to the content they need; you will be working in partnership with our Customer experience team.

Full Job Description
The UX designer role is to make a product or service usable, enjoyable, and accessible.
The Lead UX designer is the guardian of our UX principles and ensures they evolve effectively to meet our customer s needs, industry best practice and our future business goals.
They provide both leadership in and hands-on delivery of intuitive user experience designs in line with AQAs brand and customer focused strategy.
They articulate our UX vison and strategy.
They analyse and gather insight into the changing needs of our users and our business and translate them into clear, rewarding and engaging user journeys across our digital estate.
They provide hands-on support and mentoring to advance the UX skills and understanding of others in the department and across the business and share knowledge of online customer behaviour and promote the adoption of UX design practices.
They maintain and continuously improve UX governance (our design pattern libraries, style guides, design systems, icon libraries and brand in our Digital Service Manual) and provide oversight and direction to colleagues or 3rd parties applying them.Landscape:
This specialist, leadership role manages and mentors other UX designers and works alongside the Lead Digital Delivery Manager, Lead Digital Content Designer, Lead Web developer and Head of Digital in a Digital team of 15.
Focusing on the corporate website, the UX/UI design work extends to applications, portals, secure extranets, 3rd party software and partner websites working alongside both internal and external developers.
Working closely with our Marketing and Customer experience teams they are responsible for the creation and delivery of the online user experience that is informed by the wider AQA brand and Customer Experience strategies. This might translate to other feeder channels and communications types such as email, Google ads, social media.
They influence others across the business about the benefits of baking UX into AQA s approach.
Accountable for maintaining, extending and evangelising the AQA digital design principles in our Digital Service Manual.
Challenge established ways of working to continually improve business processes to embed a UX design foundation and methodology informed by customer insight.
Manage, mentor and develop UX designers working as part of an agile digital team.
Elicit customer problem statements and business requirements and lead on interface design by translating requirements into engaging visual concepts that clearly and effectively meet the specified needs.
Create wireframes, prototypes, user journeys, site maps, reports, presentations and other relevant artefacts to communicate their work.
Develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and 3rd parties and be able to articulate the rationale of design solutions to non-designers and successfully commission robust, quality, effective and on brand design elements from 3rd parties and agencies.
To contribute to the development and interpretation of the AQA brand online, demonstrating an innovative and creative mind.
To complete user centred design research, write reports and interpret analytics, write user stories, carry out user testing, persona development, and user journey mapping.
To work with the team to conceptualise and design responsive, visual, user interfaces with sketches, low and hi fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and, high fidelity, interactive, pixel perfect mock- ups with specifications for developers.
Define, deliver, iterate and measure ongoing success of UX lead projects
Need to know (to be successful in this role, you will need to know):
Expert understanding of the principles of user centred design, customer experience, information architecture, user research, navigational design, visual design, usability and accessibility and responsive web design best practices
Expert understanding of brand and brand guidelines.
Strong, creative visual design skills
Strong understanding of the principles of CMS templates, layouts and workflow
Strong understanding of accessibility; WAI guidelines and W3C standards and their impact on web design
Good understanding of code to communicate changes to developers (but not a code expert)
Strong ability to lead and manage a team and scheduling workload
Strong understanding of cross-browser, cross-platform and cross-channel (tablet/mobile) design and coding issues
Be results focused: make pragmatic decisions and deliver at pace
Confident, clear and assured communicator
Question everything and look for validation from customer research or feedback
Be abreast of technologies and developments in the UX arena to keep AQA at the forefront of assessment.
