The Advisor, Energy Management is accountable to the Director, Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility for the data collection, research, and analysis of sustainable building performance metrics within the portfolio (such as energy and water use) and research and development of initiatives that increase cost savings through efficiency practices at our properties. The Advisor, Energy Management is responsible for carrying out set objectives and looking for ways to generate greater cost and energy savings toward Morguard "Reaching Net Zero."


* Project Administration

Submission of performance data to regulators via Energy Star Portfolio Manager (ESPM). This will include acting as an ESPM "Verifier". Assist with development of new building performance target setting process. Complete annual Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking for required properties. Communicate and coordinate with third party consultants on related projects.
* CSR Assessment and Needs Analysis

Assist in the analysis of the energy use/building performance of Morguard owned and managed properties. Assist with the development and analysis for a set of "GREENLink" Awards: internal building performance awards.
* Energy and Operations Planning

Develop new short- and long-term objectives for energy and emissions use of Morguard's owned and managed properties
* Researching and Benchmarking

Coordinate various initiatives related to GHG reduction, energy intensity and benchmarking, including but not limited to the assessment of area/ space measurements, BOMA/LEED certifications, and the implementation of Energy Star ratings. Complete Energy Star Portfolio Manager benchmarking analysis, including reporting monthly, quarterly and annually to relevant property stakeholders. Research and develop energy and cost saving initiatives to present to the Property Management. Research incentives and funding for energy saving projects in Canada.
* CSR Initiatives

Responsible for the implementation of sustainability initiatives that focus on Morguard's Responsible Property Investment long-term objective and proactively engage with internal stakeholders to execute those initiatives. Analyze sustainable building performance data for consistency, accuracy, and outliers to focus cost saving and strategic initiatives, which includes a Monthly Property Performance Review.

Any other job-related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

* Diploma in Energy Management or Engineering or equivalent
* Relevant work experience (5 years)
* Experience with and an understanding of North American Energy laws and regulation (including but not limited to EWRB)
* Training or relevant experience in energy and environmental management in real estate
* Analytical skills specifically related to energy management data, tools and technology
* Exceptional working knowledge of current sustainability best practices
* Strong understanding of building performance metrics and data
* Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive focus on building relationships to help convince and influence internal and external stakeholders
* Strong research and coordination skills
* Proficiency with MS Office applications
* Experience handling multiple initiatives, roles and responsibilities
* Proficiency with MS Office applications and general intermediate to advanced computer skills.
* Experience with Science Based Targets and with GHG Protocol, GHG Accounting, and Carbon Disclosure Project.
* Team management skills

Additional Requirements

* CEM or equivalent certification preferred
* Previous exposure to or experience with corporate sustainability initiatives and programs is a plus
* Previous exposure to or experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager is required
* Previous experience or accreditation in LEED is a plus
* Certifications or diplomas in energy management is a plus
* Real estate industry specific experience is an asset.
