This team will be accountable for purchasing products on behalf Loblaw’s retail divisions – Market, Discount and Shoppers Drug Mart – all in an effort to provide our customers with the best value possible.
Reporting to the Director, Procurement, the Buyer, Procurement role participates in category negotiations which involves cost changes, category analytics & insights. This role is also involved in solving for major vendor out of stocks & recalls and completing all administrative tasks of new vendor set up, baseline costing, auditing and review.
This role will work as part of the Procurement Team, who will be relentlessly focused on securing the best cost for the enterprise. The Procurement team will negotiate with vendors to purchase products for the Discount, Market, Wholesale, SDM divisions and leverage the scale of the organization to enable the delivery of better value for the customer.
Key Accountabilities:
Vendor Management
Attends meetings with vendors and supports managing vendor with the Director, Procurement by conducting analysis, gathering information, and preparing documents
Analyzes vendors against specific criteria outlined within the category playbook
Responsible for complete vendor management and setting up tasks and updating systems
Supports the Director, Procurement in initiating contact with vendors and internal teams
Assists with developing materials for the Enterprise Joint Business Planning (JBP) meetings based on the direction of the Director, Procurement and leveraging materials created by the JBP team
Tracks first cost and follows up with vendors on gaps/challenges
Responsible for troubleshooting as it relates to first cost (data integrity, process clarifications, billings)
Category & Procurement Strategy
In collaboration with the merchandising team, checks and cleans Assortment Integrity Check (AIC) for first costs
Supports procurement team with new innovative sourcing and procurement opportunities that can be tied to trends in the market, through research, analysis of vendor landscape, all tied to improving cost and category strategy (ie: packaging, CSR opportunities, logistics, production efficiencies)
Conducts analysis to support the Merchandising team to review performance metrics such as Sales, Market Share, Trading & Contribution Margin, Tonnage (Article Growth, and provides potential specific actions from a costing and sourcing perspective.
Accountable for delivering budgeted 1st cost targets
Assortment Planning & Management
Sets up new vendors in the system, and working with the Central Data Management team and vendors to ensure data is correct
Inventory Management
Works with LCL support functions (e.g., Replenishment, Transport) and coordinating across merchandising teams to assist in resolving any major issues as they arise i.e. over-orders, shorts shipments
Helps identify opportunities to improve inventory allocation and purchasing
Facilitation where needed on major vendor stock supply chain issues
General Administrative Duties
Supports with general data management and administrative activities
Develops ad-hoc reports and complete analysis as required by Director, Procurement to support decision making

Have proven success in a procurement or merchandising role
