Assistant Manager Job Description

Reports to: Store Manager

Hourly Wage: $17.00/Hr + Tips

Summary: The Assistant Manager serves as a model of exceptional customer service and professionalism in the workplace and as the functional PIC when the Manager is not present.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Create an exceptional coffee experience for every guest

Assist manager with operational duties

Serve as a voice and representative of Victrola

Consistently checks preparation and presentation standards on all beverages

Serves as a resource to staff: coffee offerings, dialing in, and recipes.

Ensure caf employees are competent and comfortable to share about coffees

Monitor all cash handling procedures

Assist manager with orders, inventory, retail displays, and product movement

Always maintain the highest standards of caf cleanliness

Ensure caf equipment is routinely cleaned and properly maintained

Work as the interim manager if manager is not available

Provides functional Leadership and oversight of daily floor operations as directed.

Guides efficient operational flow and effective communication on the floor.

Consistently checks preparation and presentation standards on espresso and all brewed beverages.

Exemplifies exceptional customer service to all guests.

Helps train new baristas via shadow shifts as assigned and provides initial performance feedback to barista trainer and Store Manager.

Aids in the roll out of new coffees, drinks, and recipes in their caf

Excites staff when new coffees, retail and promos launch and champions the value of cupping and further coffee training education

Participates in regular meetings with store Leadership team.


Working knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and extraction techniques

Able to taste and describe flavor notes

Genuine, knowledgeable, adaptable, and professional in customer service interactions

Proficient in Victrola s coffee preparation and presentation standards

Able to teach and train others in all aspects of the barista role

Strong communication skills with customers, co-workers, and neighboring community

Interest in advancing into a manager position

Able to multi-task calmly and effectively

Willing to receive constructive feedback and continuously improve

Understanding of coffee brewing equipment and basic troubleshooting techniques

Education/Experience: Previous experience with coffee and / or service industry preferred but not required. Communication is key to any success must be able to clearly communicate to co-workers as well as customers

Math Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Must maintain 30 + scheduled hours a week.
