The Coding Specialist, Non-Certified Coder must be able to interpret clinical documentation. Coders need to understand the specific requirements for assessment codes, treatment codes, and E/M codes. Additionally, they must understand clinician-related coding and billing requirements for psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors, psychiatric nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physician assistants, clinical social workers, and other licensed mental health professionals. Coding Specialist will be responsible for accurate DX/CPT/HCPCS codes assignment following all State. Local, and Federal regulatory coding guidelines. In addition, Coding Specialist will demonstrate understanding of clinical documentation requirements resulting in quantitative and qualitative decision making within scope of work.
This role will ensure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per governmentand insurance regulations; research and analyze data needs for reimbursement; ensure all 837 claims are filed and processed correctly; analyze medical records and identify documentation deficiencies; comply with coding guidelines and policies; review and verify documentation for diagnosis, procedures, and treatment results and assigning accurate codes per coding guidelines; Collaborate with management in the development and improvement of workflow processes for optimum output and efficiency. Strong applicants will have: mental and physical medicine background; proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of coding software; excellent verbal and written communication skills; outstanding organizational skills; experience utilizing EMR/EHR and/or Practice Management software; excellent customer service that is both professional and accommodating; demonstrated respect towardthe diversity of clients and peers.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three or more relevant years of professional coding experience
Preferred: Bilingual and Bi-cultural; Associatesdegree in medical coding; Experience in a non-profit/human services organization.

Typical hiring range for a 40-hr. work week is $23.15 - 27.78/hour based on relevant qualifications and experience.
